The thing is, the story will always be written by the original author otherwise they may as well tell me they need a middle to a story, give me a characters name & fill out the rest!
It might not be "to the book" but ultimately it's the author's story!
    Which was my point!

The episodes are no longer written by George R. R. Martin. In fact I don't think he has any creative involvement in the show anymore.

So far it's been heavily based on his latest, unfinished book apparently. He's definitely still involved as far as I know

I read an interview where he said he gave them a general outline a couple of years a go, in case he died while writing the books. So although he no longer gets involved with writing scripts they should have an idea where his story line is headed (hopefully).

Obviously they would never change his outline <whistle>

Probably the case. I'm not suggesting they're going in an opposite direction, just that he isn't hands on with the show.

According to the actors that appear on the show, Martin is still involved and he works closely with the producers. Still you know best.

Edit Thanks for posting that link. I like being told I should install some software or my phone will die.

I wasn't suggesting I know best, I was going off media I have read, but thanks for the attitude.

Read better media. I think you are the one with the poor attitude on this board. Have a nice evening.

I've read numerous sources that have said the same thing. Actors calling Martin for advice is not the same thing as him telling the writers what direction to take the story in.

When you are talking about TV or film adaptations then this can be debatable, Lord of the Rings for example Tolkein can't come back from the grave and complain how they made his story more attractive to movie goers

It wouldve been more attractive if he'd never written it :bandit:

I love the books more than anything, but not so keen on the films. Think that's because I grew up reading Tolkein and the pictures painted in the books weren't necessarily what I saw on the big screen.

I loved lord of the rings , but then again I have been accused of having no taste. I read the hobbit at school and The Lord of the rings when I was in the navy... I actually liked the cartoon of lord of the rings also .. Death and taxes are the only definite facts, except when your wife is in that month and hates your guts !!!! Now that's a FACT !!!

Each to their own and that's what makes the world go round but I hated both the books (didnt read the Hobbit) and the films. And before watching I thought GoT would be really similar to LotR and I therefore thought I'd massively dislike it, but instead of a load of fat footed dwarf gimps going on a long walk it's actually full of tits, dragons and shagging.

I preferred the old cartoon to the films, it really captured the spirit of the books

The problem with the cartoon is it just stopped! Apparently they ran out of money!
As for the movies I thought they were brilliantly done. I loved the books at school & when I heard they were making the movie I was really looking forward to them & they did not let me down!
