Please explain how Spurs making a bid for Mata has anything to do with Modric having a price?

I would have thought that Redknapp, like Wenger is lining up Mata as a replacement for the loss of a creative MF player.

Spurs are not light in midfield and the interest they are now showing in Mata could be seen as a possible replacement for the 'want-a-way' Modric. Levy does have previous for changing his mind, a certain Berbatov is not for sale?

    Everything is possible <ok>

Mata's a winger, whereas Modric plays a fairly deep role in midfield.
It's far more likely that he's being pursued to play in his natural position and that Bale will be moved to left-back if he signs, as Redknapp sees that as his natural position in the long run.

Mata can play AMF though, he isn't just a winger.

Modric doesn't play an advanced role for us though, van der Vaart does.

Which is why Lassana Diarra is also being lined up by Spurs

Am I alone in thinking we are wasting too much time trying to sign Modric? Reminds me of when we wasted all our time trying to sign Robinho and that fell through and we had no back up plan.

There are surely other less public options that we could be going for...

What about a cheeky bid for Fabregas??

If we were willing to part with 40 odd million for Pastore why not offer the same for Fabregas? It's what Arsenal seem to be looking for but Barca aren't prepared to pay. Obviously Arsenal dont want to sell to a rival but given Barca's conduct these last 2 seasons, maybe Arsenal would be prepared to accept an offer that would mean more money for them and pissing off Barca in the process. Would the player come? Probably not but we can dream!!

And on the Arsenal theme, what about Nasri instead of Modric?? Less money and more likely given his contract situation. Would Arsenal really turn down say 20 million when he could sign for someone in 5 months time for nothing (pre contract)??

We really need to look at other options because 40 million + for Modric is crazy money even if spurs would sell.

Definitely agree with that, I still don't think we will get him. Although it is quite suspicious what Kevin Bond said. I think we should go for Moutinho, worked with AVB before hand and Portuguese normally do well in the Premier League (as stereotypical that is.) I know one thing though, I don't have a great feeling about this season ahead.

I would have preferred pastore... he looks quality and if he goes to psg then that would be a shame :(

Pastore would have been great and I can't see Modric happening now either.

We badly need some creativity in that midfield somewhere but not sure who is now available. Porto will want silly money for Moutinho as good as he is. Suprised that young swiss lad isn't being talked about more (Shaqiri?), he looks mustard and wouldn't costs too much either. Also seems to have gone quiet on De Bruyne who again looks very good from what i've seen albeit in a weaker league.
