Its like being forced to choose your own execution between hanging or lethal injection - Meire & Murray on one side. Saint Peter Varney, Rick "I want my job back" Everitt & the Combover Collective on the other. As a mere paying punter of fairly long standing, I personally could not give a flying f*ck about any of them. Meire proved again yesterday why she should not be let anywhere near an English football boardroom. Murray is at least 10 years past his sell by date and appears to have early symptoms of dementia ("I could go and stand in the North Stand") , Varney is the bloke who started the slippery slide to oblivion with Dowie and then his risible appointment of Les Reed....and Rick Everitt is the Roy Cropper of SE7. People BLINDLY SUPPORTING Varney should just take a minute to look at his actual record as CEO, rather than foam over the latest hyperbolic Tweets of Roy Cropper-Everett. And I say that as a fairly well informed supporter, who wouldn't p1ss on Meire if she was on fire.
If Meire responds, I expect her to say she didn't actually say it was about PV's bid. It's very much implied, but she stops short of saying "Varney wants to move". Cawley needs to bring more context to it. Is any other club rife with politics like charlton? On a day a new manager is appointed (who came across very well IMO) we are talking about moving from the valley, lies, emails, name changes to the stadium etc etc. If it brings Meire downfall then it will be worth it, if it doesn't then it's just another stain left on the club. Some seem happy to do this and think of the consequences later.
The support for Varney is basically "My enemy's enemy is my friend". It's an old Arabic saying- works OK for them doesn't it. We've got no idea who he is representing, he has stated categorically that he himself won't be involved, so we are totally in the dark about what would happen next. It was probably a bad idea to get Varney involved, since it re-ignited Murray's feud with him. And we know how seriously our Richard takes his vendettas.
Royston, I agree that we know nothing about whoever the new buyers varney has tried to bring in are. We knew nothing about RD until he got into gear and sold Kermogant. I would always be very wary of anything along the lines of 'it couldn't be worse than....' However, the general consensus I read on the forums I visit is that the bridges are well burnt between the fans and the club. While Meire, Murry and Two Chalets remain, there is not much hope of a turn around, and if by a miracle Slade gets us back up, who would bet against Duchatalet saying it proved his wisdom, and giving us more of the same dross we have had. I don't care about the figures in the fanbase (Henry Irving, Prague, Airman). I've met none of them, but they are hoping the Regime sells, so that puts me on the same side as them.
Peter Varney and KM, there's no comparison as CEO's. Admittedly Varney's reputation is tarnished by his dogged attempts to keep Uncle Les as manager, and also his attempts to move Charlton into Kent, but overall he was quite successful in his role, communicative and conscientious. Who have we had as CEO who has done better? Mind you, like Murray, he was most successful when Curbs was manager.
In general I do not trust any CEO or owner. They're not philanthropists, they're there for their own personal greed and to make someone else or themselves a ****load of money. When it comes to Varney it's the lesser of two evils therefore they'd have more support from me than the current. I'd actually prefer it if football clubs were co-operatives, owned by the fans and run for the fans but with a board that you vote for. With the money now that is there to be made, greed and corruption from FIFA, I got more chance on going on a date and getting plastered with Sophie Turner, than having clubs run as co-operatives.
Only another attempt at a new Charlton message board by @Sadiejane1981 , which crashed and burned with only 4 active members. Welcome back. Will have to dust off those Sinatra gags.
Don't let truth get in the way of your barbed comments. The Charlton Proboards has not crashed and burned it is still thriving. It has got as many regular posters as this Forum. Let us not get into a case of whose dick is the largest, as that is extremely tedious. I will continue to post my witty insightful views across all forums. It would be a shame to deprive you all.
Depends if something can "thrive" whilst on a ventilator and life support machine I suppose. As for the "regular" posters on the "Nice Forum", are you including the 4 moderators? Welcome back anyway. You are the new Interim One
That's why I don't want to go for a drink with you Elfs. If I'm going to cheat on my wife, I'd prefer if she didn't look like she has been on Jeremy Kyle. The coat doesn't help either
Fanny will be devastated when she hears about your wandering eye. Is no one woman enough for you, man ?
