I was on here as Davie1956 , but left the site.

When I came back it wouldn't let me have my old user name , so I chose another memorable year instead.

you peaked my interest so i've just done the same. article from february, in a q&a twitter session keown eliminates zlat from joining le arse, chelski, ****ty and united and mentions newcastle once with tongue-in-cheek (obviously more so now they're out of the premier league).

"If Zlatan moves to the EPL which club do you think will sign him? @bradyb_98
I’d love to see him play in the Premier League and surely he’d want the opportunity to play in England. To be honest, given the lack of competition in the French league I can’t understand why he hasn't wanted to come here sooner.
He’s an unbelievable player but he plays in flashes. Wherever he goes, his manager really has to manage him. On Tuesday we saw moments of magic, quality and imagination but it’s when he plays right up against defenders that he really asks questions. Zlatan has an arrogance where he wants to go looking for the ball to try and make things happen. His manager has to keep him where he’s at his most effective.
I don’t know whether Arsene Wenger would gamble on him – Zlatan had a chance years ago at Arsenal but turned it down – and given the wages and his age, it doesn’t feel like an Arsenal deal.
I’m not sure Chelsea would take him either – imagine the clash between him and Diego Costa! I just don’t think you could play those two together.
I doubt very much Pep Guardiola would take him at Man City given their fall-out at Barcelona and I don’t think United would take the punt either because they need a long-term option up front.
Of course Zlatan’s wages and profile means he’d most likely head to one of the big clubs, but I’d be fascinated if he went somewhere like Newcastle. It’s unlikely, I know, but imagine him being a new No 9 up there! His wages might be extortionate but there will be a lot of money swirling around in the Premier League next season.
We’d love to see him here but I just hope we see him at his best. He’s been used to playing for and alongside the best all his career so if the big boys don’t want him, it will be interesting to see how much of a football man he is."

this website, www.themag.co.uk , i get the impression some of it's journalists are pisstakers. look at this one about wor jack.

    Nothing gets past Jack Colback…
Jack Colback: “We need to keep hold of the right players and sign the right players."

Looking ahead to a season in the Championship, Jack Colback has shown the kind of insight that only a true professional could come out with.
The Newcastle midfielder says that this summer the club need to ‘keep hold of the right players and sign the right players’.
Now he has said it, it all becomes so blindingly obvious.
If only he had mentioned this earlier to Mike Ashley and Graham Carr, we could all have been spared a lot of heartache and rubbish football.
Maybe it is Rafa Benitez who has given the likes of Colback this insight, after years of Newcastle keeping hold of the wrong players and then signing more of them.
Jack Colback’s idea of the ‘right players’ are ones who have string character and are ready to perform now, not in the hope they can develop in a few years time.
It illustrates perfectly just how badly Ashley and Carr dealt with the transfer strategy a year ago.
Newcastle had only survived in May 2015 on the very final day and for the following (last) season they needed players who could come straight in and as well as performing themselves, could help motivate and bring the best out of those around them.
Instead, Newcastle signed a 19 year old, two 20 year olds, a 22 year old and 24 year old Gini Wijnaldum, all of them recruited from weaker leagues.
Last time Newcastle United found themselves in the Championship, Chris Hughton wasn’t given a penny to spend in summer 2009 and those early months saw a procession of loan players to bulk up the team/squad.
This time around, Rafa Benitez has been able to demand a realistic budget as well as cash from any sales, though it is still very likely that quality players from the loan market will also be targeted as part os the overall Rafa plan.
    Jack Colback:
“We need to keep hold of the right players and sign the right players.
“There are a lot of games and we need a strong squad with good players who are up for the challenge.
“We will need players who can properly help the team now, not a few years down the line.
“It is a tough league and you need a strong group of characters in order to get promoted.”

thick ginger geordie. even his own ilk see fit to rip the piss. <laugh>

Our Niall was here pretty much from the start, about 10 he was.
Doesn't bother with it at all now, not even the predictions.
I think he has a bird in tow but he's being very coy about it.
He's a bit shy you know, just like his father.
