How does Meire know that? She and Roland have not answered e-mails or allowed any contact with Varney. Why would you believe her?
Richard Cawley has now asked Varney about this claim. He says he is outraged but not surprised. Cawley has tweeted his reply "This is total nonsense. I would ask her to provide any evidence to support the statement she made to the media". Do you think she will, or is it just another lie? Probably Murray is behind it.
Murray is playing the political game back. He knows no legal issue can come from this, and it harms PV's takeover. Not to the extent people won't prefer him, but serious questions raised. As it should be. It was his idea back in the early 00's - Murray said no.
I'm definitely keeping an eye on it. But appears PV careful not to sound off about going down that route. Why?
KM's latest Lie is so brazen that I think we'll hear more of it. Since Varney admitted at the time that he was looking at alternatives to The Valley, I don't think he has any skeletons in the cupboard in that respect.
This wasn't an off the cuff comment remember - this was a planned statement. They will be expecting some sort of retaliation, but must be verrrrrry confident to say it. Besides - there is an element of truth there. I don't remember Varney saying it publicly at the time, but it was a long time ago. He stopped a sentence short of saying he would seek legal advice. Says it all to me.
So Varney has given Meire 48 hours to retract or emails will be published. The fans are the losers amongst all of this. If it's a lie, go ahead with a lawsuit - don't succumb to this pettiness. Just my two cents.
Who to believe, Varney or that woman? If it turns out she can provide proof, I'll happily eat humble pie, but I'm not going on a diet just yet - in my opinión, she's come up with yet another foot-in-mouth moment the day we get a new manager. Katrien, you are a moron.
I'm keeping an open mind on this one. Like Ken, will eat humble pie if wrong, but I don't think this is a closed case like many think. Least it allows Slade to do his job in the shadows... :S
Pete Varney now in the News Shopper. KM has 48 hours to publish a retraction, or all the correspondance goes into the public domain. Again, she has magically pulled another defeat from the jaws of a very tiny victory. 48 hours woman, the clock is ticking, and we are all watching. Just when it seemed there would be nothing much to get excited about with the new manager in place.
a blatent lie. this woman has made a bad career of it. the interesting bit will be seeing if they retract the statement or not. the regime have never once been in a position to be told what to do. the reaction will be interesting - can you see KM admitting a lie? i cant. will a public scolding will be good for the regime?
But publishing their correspondence doesn't rule out the fact a move could have been discussed with a third party. If KM retracts it, she's taken past information and blown it out of proportion - and surely can't escape being sacked/standing down.
Murray must have put her up to it. She and Roland could not have known about Varney's previous interest in moving away from the Valley, it must have come from Murray (who is now portraying himself as a victim).
If Meire's allegation is based on Varney's proposals 12 or so years ago that's a very flimsy basis,especially since he's stated categorically that he would have no involvement at Charlton if the takeover went ahead, due to his involvement at Ebbsfleet. I'm afraid that we have to think the unthinkable, ie that our CEO is lying
