Chelsea Offered £1.2m To Club Doctor Carneiro

Dr Carneiro is expected to give evidence for at least two-and-a-half days

Chelsea's former first-team doctor, Eva Carneiro, apparently turned down an offer of £1.2m ahead of an employment tribunal case she has now begun against the club.
Dr Carneiro, 42, is claiming constructive dismissal against the former Premier League champions.
She is also taking separate action against former manager Jose Mourinho for alleged victimisation and discrimination.
Dr Carneiro's lawyer, Mary O'Rourke QC, told the hearing in Croydon, south London, she would probably want to question Mourinho for at least a day.
In documents submitted on behalf of Chelsea and Mourinho, it was stated that Dr Carneiro had been "made an open offer of £1.2m to settle her claims".
The club claimed that contemporaneous documents showed Dr Carneiro did not consider Mourinho's actions, during a match last August, to be discriminatory.
The skeleton argument said: "The purpose of the discrimination claim was to lift the statutory cap, in order to justify the claimant's extravagant compensation claim."

On the tribunal's first day, the panel heard an extract from Mourinho's statement in which he concedes that he used the Portuguese term "filho da puta", meaning "son of a bitch or whore", but he had been using it throughout the match.
Mourinho said: "Filho da puta is a phrase I often use. All of the players know it.
"There is no sexist connotation in the use of the phrase - it is just like saying 'f*** off'.
"In the world of football, a lot of swear words are used."
But Dr Carneiro alleges that Mourinho used a slightly different term, "Filha da puta", meaning "daughter of a bitch or whore".
Ms O'Rourke said: "He uses the word 'filha' because he is abusing a woman."
She added that Dr Carneiro heard the term "clearly from behind her" as she ran on to the grass.
The incident which led to Dr Carneiro leaving Chelsea happened on the first day of the 2015-16 Premier League season on 8 August.
During a match against Swansea at Stamford Bridge, she and physio Jon Fearn were berated by Mourinho for going on to the pitch to treat midfielder Eden Hazard.
It meant that Chelsea were temporarily down to nine men.
Afterwards, Mourinho called Dr Carneiro and Mr Fearn "impulsive and naive".
Dr Carneiro did not appear on the bench again and later left the club.
She is expected to give evidence for at least two-and-a-half days.
The tribunal was adjourned until Tuesday

It's quite interesting to see that she's been offered her job back more than once and told them to get stuffed.

1.3mil in compo turned down I think means she is after mourinho here... why? Cos she took her time bringing an action and now seems to be turning down huge sums.

I think she wants to stand up for women on football and put the dinosaurs in their place

Could/would a settlement include a non-disclosure agreement preventing her from putting all the detail in a book?

No, there's nothing worse than a jumped-up jerk with a coaching badge telling a professional medical practitioner how to treat a patient, then calling her a daughter of whore for having the temerity to ignore him.

hmmmm, So the rumours of an affair with a first team player are most likely true. Thats how I read that sentence.
My money is Ivanovic, definitely, always said there was something between them two.

To be honest though, my opinion on this is as follows:

Rumours going around the first team that she was sleeping with one of the players, this pissed Jose off.
He took it out on her and found an excuse to demote her (The Swansea game). I believe this to be the case because I have never seen a manager go after a doctor like that for treating a player, and the ref called the doctors onto the pitch, so she had a duty of care to offer treatment to Hazard. Jose must know this, he has been a manager for 15 years, he must know how club doctors work. This was all a ruse by Jose to get rid because he probably thought she was corrupting his player(s).
The club were probably also aware of the rumour and so silently backed Jose because they wanted her out too.

This is my take on what happened.

I don't believe a lot of this stuff the club are coming up with. Carneiro got married around this time, I don't believe these affair allegations.

 

You don't believe she had an affair because she got married?
Isnt that the only time you CAN have an affair?

I've no idea what actually went on there but it did look like Jose making a fool of her and questioning her ability, is it now a matter of personnal pride or making as much cash as possible?

Lol if that version is true then they've done exactly what she's accusing them of.

Either they had evidence of inappropriate conduct...you know like a doctor sleeping with their patient...which could see her lose her right to practice never mind her job.. there should be a formal disciplinary procedure to deal with that. The version above is bullying and constructive dismissal.

As for the affair stuff..if it was true she's risking a lot going to Tribunal...if it can be proved it ends her career.

Of its not true it's further proof she's doing the right thing...they'd never try that line with a male physio.

 

Agreed, no doubt my club is in the wrong here.
I am not one of those blinkered fans who believe their club can do no wrong.
Even if she was sleeping with Ivanovic, though that would make her liable legally, morally in my view she has still done nothing wrong.

 

so what you are saying is:

a) the woman was slandered in the club in a sexist way.. sleeping with the clients.

b) despite the phyiso (man) entering field of play first on referee's order she was singled out for the hairdryer treatment, demoted and called a daughter of a whore

c) while only lip service treatment was given the the physio she was stripped of all duties for a non workplace performance reason

d) the Fa whitewashed the affair and did not even interview her.

e) she will be further slandered in court.

Frnakly this will be great TV for us all... she is going to severely embarrass mourinho, chelsea and the FA... I hope she nails the lot of them.

 

This is exactly what I am saying.
Chelsea, but chiefly, Mourinho are in for a rough ride here.
They knew she was sleeping with a player but couldn't prove it, so they created a situation in which they could attempt to villify her and force her out of the club.
A stupid decision, probably masterminded by Jose.
