Billy/Stu You may see it as unfair, but frankly I find it very odd that a few of you seem to be determined to "go against" the Board. Making the point is fine and good for debate, but I find it very strange that there is such a strong will to keep raising that, to (in my eyes) keep trying to pin it on the Board. It's my opinion that the strong will is odd.
I'm not trying to go against the board at all, I genuinely don't see it as clear cut as you and many other here do. I also think to an extent he has gone against his word, that's his choice and we don't know the full reasons, if its money then so what. I find your comment of this constantly being raised as slightly disingenuous, ut is a forum and you and others are raising one side of a debate, me and a few selection of others are suggesting alternate views. Nothing wrong with that, I thought that is what this forum was set up for. I don't often post as I work c. 14 hour days but I read everyday, and I do see this from time to time on here, and that's one of the other reasons I don't make time to contribute. Its like politics really... I've always understood others views and have regularly said so across this debate, you seem to having a hard time doing the same, unless I'm reading what you're saying incorrectly...
Absolutely I have a hard time understanding some of these views - I've said that across my posts. I even said that to you a couple of posts back. I couldn't be clearer in that.
Well done for missing the points in my previous post! Best perhaps to agree to disagree, after all we do both love our team...
Well, that is the point isn't it. Some of us are quite clearly saying that if it is for the money then we find that distasteful. We said that from day one and it goes against everything that man said. Clearly you don't have a problem with that (I understand now ) and some of us do, so we'll have to just disagree.
I don't think trying to look at the situation from beyond the pay rise that Ron will receive is automatically blaming the board. It may have been Billy(I can't remember) who made the great point that Ron would not be going to a Villa or Newcastle if they were the team offering the salary. A rich Everton is a great job opportunity and from Rons perspective, proving he can do a good job at another premier league club will look better on his cv. E.g finishing 6th with Everton next season will probably seem more impressive than finishing 6th with saints. Also are Everton definitely appointing a director of football? If they're not then Ron is joining a club where he will wield more power. That doesn't mean that I think Les and Ron don't get on, but even if you respect your boss. There will be times when you're compromising and would prefer not too. I'd like to think that Ron would not harm his reputation for solely money alone and finding additional reasons does not have to be the fault of Saints.
I may be being blind/interpreting posts differently but I haven't seen anyone on here really blaming the board? Saintsweb different matter. I asked if there had ever been a time when Les had done one of his positive interviews and then it come to fruition as I was just wondering if perhaps it is a PR tactic by the club (nothing wrong with that and certainly not something I would blame the board for).
I get all of that... but it is still him going back on what he said over and over again and indeed, very recently as aired yesterday by Adam Blackmore in the media.
Ok, taking the semantics out, let's say "steering the blame away from Koeman" And ... for those who ask people like me, to take a real world view on this. It is not in our real world.
I'm about to go out to Brighton and won't be back until mid-afternoon. I imagine that the Lying Dutchman will be out of the door by the time I return...
Big assumption for Ron to think that Everton will do better than us...money helps, but league success isn't always proportionate to money spent. It is how it is spent. Paying through the nose for a decent though experienced manager wouldn't fill me with confidence that they won't waste money. They could have got a manager equivalent to Ron for far less money.....we will probably prove that. We are a well run club and will continue to do well, even though you can expect ups and downs with any club. I can still hardly credit him choosing Everton....can only think his agent was trying to pull a fast one and, at this late stage, Saints were pissed off and gave him little choice but to go with the Everton offer. Then Saints discovered their inner Cortese and decided to screw out everything they could...especially an agreement he wouldn't pursue our players.
I have to say I think we will dip this season, bit that was likely to happen anyway. it wont bother me, and I know FLT has been saying the same for a while. I also think Everton wont do as well as they hope and we will be fairly well matched in the league
It is a human reaction to try and justify why someone would leave or act in a way you consider alien to them. Koeman may have left solely for the money, he may have left for a combination of factors, as you like to say "it isn't always just black and white there is always a grey area"
I see a lot of the 'I don't want him' managers are finding other clubs - De Boer is allegedly off to Milan and Emery is signing for PSG, Howe doesn't want to go to us [not worried reallly to be honest] and that leaves only Moyes or AVB on the guesstastic list - except of course AVB doesn't want to manage in England again [who can blame him], so it's gonna be Moyes [oh hoorah] or someone we've never heard of, or worse someone we have that is massively underwhelming. Also having a quick early morning skim through the forums and news outlets and a strong rumour appears to be the hold up is down to Saints having a no-poaching clause added to the agreement which Everton will not agree to - so they are definitely after our better players and of course RK will probably know the release clauses, wages, etc and despite all of our hopes and beliefs we all know that money means everything and contracts, no matter how far-dated, are just guarantees to get the selling club some extra money and not any statement of intent. I'm not feeling in the slightest bit confident or terrible happy at the moment. Only in a supporting a football club sense of course I do realise it is not a particularly big and important thing in the overall scheme of things
Absolutely I know that and if you go back early in this saga, I said that too. My point is that I find it strange that some people "have a go" (nicely) at those that are starting the name calling of Koeman. I am not really on about the rights and wrongs, but the bit I find strange is those that question why some of us are being silly and name calling Koeman. I live in a football dream world when it comes to Saints and I got to the point where it was clear Ron was leaving and decided to let him have it. People then questioned why we would do that from their sensible real world point of view. This has gone on so long (in terms of posts and pages) that the points have drifted. I am a passionate football fan. I am sorry.
