I don't think we can hope any more that RK may change his mind or maybe Saints perhaps don't want him to? In regards to the academy players I can understand why there is a bit of a shin dig from them. It is extremely rare during any season, that at least one of them start on the road to the first team during the season. Although I am aware that this was a big problem with the board, as they were told there was not any players that would make the grade in the short term. It was a stumbling block to be sure and the board were not happy. The board by all accounts would not interfere with his management style or preferences although there is/was problems it would appear. RK has been good for Southampton in one way and certainly kept them going in the right direction on the football field. However whether the club could have progressed fully as it has been set up to go, (bringing players through to the first team via the academy) was a doubt. Although the latest negotiations it would seem with an offer on the table did have that stipulation I understand. This was the stumbling block that was brought up during the January meeting. Another was something to do with Charlie Austin but what I do not know.
In all honesty I am not sure my source actually knew the full story.....it is/was something though. We all can speculate and mine would be that the board went over his head to bring him in. As I say though that is pure speculation.
Can we now have a thread entitled "Who gives a ****?" Trust RK's packing has gone well, and wish him well. Move on. We will get a decent manager - Uncle Les will sort that. I'm going to inspect the sell by dates on my yogurts (Strachan reference for those too young to remember).
The Leicester / Arsenal war will make it slightly more interesting. Now there's a relationship that is about to be terminally damaged!
DTLW will get frustrated there. You can imagine him bumping into Wenger in the corridor: DTLW: " Morning boss, did you like my latest tweet?" Wenger: " I deed not see eet" Ps. How was the Toon Fran? Great weekend to be offline for most of the time
Not exactly off line. Drove my hosts mad using their I-pad. They left it on my seat ready every morning Back this afternoon. Unlike some I don,t consider we have been taken for fools....can,t blame the behaviour of dishonourable people on their victims. As I said, we will be fine. We march on.
All this really is part of football and in particular Southampton FC at the moment. Still some the Leicester City supporters must be feeling a little deflated at the moment even after the season they've had. My personal take on it is that we must act on appointing a new manager really quickly. No dithering and speculation, get it done fast and then it gives the players and staff and even the fans, time to settle and get used to the change and the new manager can get set, ready and start organising for the new season. Leave it too long and it could have a detrimental effect on the start we have which could easily effect the whole season. Having said that I was crap as low-level manager in work, crap at football and know very little of what I talk about....so I'm probably utterly wrong.
If it was true that the Board and Les went over RonKo's head to get Charlie just to appease the fan base then we are the ones that are responsible for this whole mess and should hold our heads in shame.
Absolutely right...a sad day for football, but also in a way a sad day for Koeman. He wasn't poor before, so didn't need money in the same way as the average worker. He lose a lot in tax. He has changed his moral compass.
Not having that. Austin purchase was a long time ago and was a bargain fix for Jays continuing absence. The board wouldn't make a major decision for moaning fans. The only person at fault is Koeman.
