Rooney bashing on BBC, I still think he's our best player and will always get bashed, just like Beckham/Shearer in the later years of his career with England. Vardy doesn't look international standard to me, he's a player you bring on against tired defences. His asset is chasing down defenders and getting in the area to score, he is doing neither albeit not all his fault. I would play 2 up front, or one with 2 behind. Kane with Rooney and Alli in tow working together. Dier in the midfield with Wilshere and probably Lallana, even though I dislike him intensely. Hodgson has made a mistake in not taking Townsend. He should be a bench player who is brought on to run at tired players. Chasing a game and you can bring on sterling, Townsend and Vardy is an asset. But he will start Vardy, far out of position making him become a passenger.
Agree with most of that. Think most positions are nailed on to be fair. I'd be tempted to go with a diamond in the group stages and then dropping another midfielder back with Dier for games where we won't dominate the ball. Back 6 of Hart, Clyne, Smalling, Cahill Rose & Dier. Kane, Rooney & Alli or all nailed on to start so that leaves 2 spots a midfielder and wide man so Lallana/Sterling and Wilshere/Milner/Henderson. I reckon last 16/qf depending on who we get. Looking forward to the first tournament without the 'golden generation' though 8 days to go, Come on England!
Id leave Alli out. He's been crap for the last few and looks more likely to be the next Beckham/Rooney red card than to do anything useful. Hate Lallana but when he came on (like normal) the play sped up and there was someone in the midfield other than Rooney trying to find space.
Did you not see the way Alli controlled that 30 yard pass that dropped over his shoulder, early in the first half? I'd have him in the side just on the strength of that.
For suuuuccch a long time, that his hair went white. He's taken a bit of banter/flack for the hair, I've read.
