Apparently Palace will activate Townsends alleged 8 million release clause....reference the daily mirror today......Did we not pay 12 million for him?....yet we have a clause releasing him for 4 million less.......Surely not!
We have. Doesn't mean he will go though. I personally think he will though. Pardew seems to be linked with a lot of our players at the mo.
Activating the release clause simply means that the club looking to buy can talk to the players representatives. It's then up to the player to decide if he wants the move or not. Personally l hope Townsend will see the bigger picture going forwards and Palace ain't it!
please log in to view this image I think £13m seems more realistic and means we take a little profit too. Will palace pay him his Toon wages though? Someone told me that they have a tight structure.
Considering that when they came up from the Championship their total revenue was just over £19 million and they have received just over £72 million from the PL and TV rights alone this season with more to come next I can see them paying to consolidate further, staying at the top table is worth so much to smaller clubs that they have to now invest in players and step up several gears, Palace after a couple of years have to progress to remain in touch as all of the clubs will do so, don't discount them from the ambition to have better players and pay the wages.
I was hoping to keep Townsend and add Redmond. With Redmond going to Stoke keeping Townsend is more important. Would've loved to see Townsend, Redmond, (a fit) Aarons and then Roberts backing them up
At the end of the day, it comes down to what Andros Townsend wants out of life. He's young at 24, so has plenty of time to make a go of it in his career. The choice is simple, be a football mercenary and move on or stay and fight to get NUFC back in the PL, potentially become part of NUFC history under Rafa. If he decides to jump ship and activate the release clause, I'll be disappointed but not surprised, he needs to look himself in the mirror and ask himself why he joined in the first place, knowing what could happen.
After seeing what he can do, I am surprised that more mid table Premiership clubs are not in for him. He could do well at both Southampton and Everton.
Shame we didn't go for Redmond before last season along with Townsend. Both impressed last year and look like genuine PL wingers. Plenty of pace. I rate Townsend highly having watched him, I think he'll be picked up by a PL club before the window closes. You'd have to hang your hat on the Rafa factor and him feeling the love. Reality is he has a short career and should be playing in the PL.
