In discussing who they played football for in Hull my grandfather said he played for Albany FC. pre 1900 and my dad for St Columbus in the 1930s. Grandad was very anti rugby league all his life and even banned his 3 sons from going to see either Hull or Rovers when they lived at home. I played for Holy Trinity for a year or so in the 50's.
From what I remember, Hornsea had Hull's oldest football team. Their left back was about 70 (Hull and District Veterans League Div 3), still quicker than me mind.
please log in to view this image Old teams from Hull are all the rage now. Even Roy has been putting the Cottingham Rangers Walking Football team through their paces...I'd be well up for this if only I could remember where I'd left me boots...bloody senior moments....
Yes you are right. I remember playing on it in the Hull Schools' Cup Final (Hull Grammar v Withernsea HS) in 1973
This is probably where Roy gets his ideas for coaching the first team. Walking Football - So one paced it's unbelievable.
Not quite right about Hull Town.. "Hull Town formed in 1879 by members of a cricket club in the same name to occupy them during the winter months. This club actually appeared in the 1883-4 and 1885 FA Cups, succumbing to local opposition in Grimsby and Lincoln respectively in the early rounds. Town eventually faded into oblivion by 1889, despite a brief re-emergence in the mid-1890s"
3rd November 1883, Hull Town lost 3-1 to Grimsby Town in the FA Cup first round. 1st November 1884, Hull Town lost 5-1 to Lincoln City in the FA Cup 1st round.
Certainly did. They used to play in the Yorkshire League and I was invited to play for them around 1969 by John Nicholson - within a week he'd moved on to Chilton Amateurs and I signed for them instead. I think his attempt to sign a player of my quality was the last straw for the club! They did stay at the ground for a few years after that and I remember playing 7 a-sides there around 1971.
