Seems slighty concerning though. Hope it's sorted soon.

More than slightly concerning, tbh. It was slightly concerning when there were reports of discontent a year ago; that it's still ongoing and we're losing good prospects is a serious concern. The Academy's reputation has been one of our biggest assets...whatever was happening at the senior level, we were the place you wanted your kid to learn the game, and now that catchment areas have fallen by the wayside, we could recruit top-level talent from anywhere. Debayo was one of those kids; he came to us from Chelsea's academy because we offered a better pathway to the first team. That he's now leaving is a major red flag.

That's the point - who the **** cares? Not the fans (if he's not any good), nor the player (if he's getting paid as he ages into his 30s). Not only would he have won the league, he'll have been an Arsenal player. There is a careerist, non-romantic rationality to it - he'll never experience success like it again at Leicester in all likelihood, so what better time to start a new chapter and challenge on triple the salary?

That's my point. They are leaving but it sounds as if there may still be a problem. Maybe Sammy or Dave are in question?

He wouldn't be a kante but I can see them wanting a stopper still.

Actually anyone that leaves Saints will be a bit of a kante in my eyes :)

I absolutely see him as a marquee signing though, without actually being marquee. More a statement than a signing that progresses them.

Can anyone make sense of the Spurs pursuit of Wanyama in the medium term.

I know they need to build a squad to compete on multiple fronts but he really going to be happy playing second fiddle to Dier?
He is well known for his strops and if he is not playing (especially if he doesn't get many champions league games) he might get unhappy quickly (regardless of pay increase which will soften the blow in the short term)

As we know strops lead to very inconsistent performances and red cards

I know players "back themselves" to get in to the first team of a new side but Dier has just had an incredible season and is young, english and not at risk from heading off to the African nations (although Kenya have not been qualifying recently)

Considering the other side if he goes in an replaces Dier that will be an appalling message to send - play a blinding season, exceed all expectations and we will sign someone over you anyway. (Same as where I see Spurs fans saying they need a number 10 despite having Alli and Eriksen. Unless I have misunderstood how they play where would this number 10 play)

Without wishing to be philosophical, it all depends on your perspective. Look at Prince for example, multi millionaire, making music and yet comparing his life to one of a slave. Or our own, dear Lovren who was apoplectic about how horrible Southmpton was being to him.
The reality is that people only look upwards when it comes to money. They don't tend to look down and be thankful for what they have. So, it doesn't matter whether you are on a building site or are a billionaire, you want more.

That is fair I just find things like that entertaining.
And could open the door for a cheeky bid for Dier in a years time :p

No, in answer to your question, as Fats always says, "it's not about the 11". It's a squad game, and with them in CL they need two good players in each position. The issue being that Victor is like an old steam engine and needs warming up and a run of games before he hits his stride.

Still, if he goes, not our problem.
