Did anyone read the Football365 mailbox after the England squad where people suggested that if Drinkwater was a regular for Liverpool he would have got in the full squad.

It reminded me of our players who only scraped in when with us (Clyne, Lallana, Lambert) or didn't get in at all (Chambers) who then strolled in when they moved on.

It made me think that there is something in that and should Liverpool actually go in for Drinkwater (it was rumoured a while ago) that he might actually go regardless of Champions League vs. no Europe at all. Slight difference is that when the players left us we were not in Europe and the destination clubs were (barring Clyne)

 

Pool were in Eu last season, wasn't that Clynes first season with them?

 

But so were we. My point was most of our players who have gone on to be regular england squad members left when we were not in europe and the club they joined were

Clyne and Shaw both left us for a non-CL club.

Clyne and Morgan both left us when we were in Europe.

I acknowledged exceptions. And I was talking about the england squad as that is the one that overwhelmngly picks players on reputation and not form. And when it finally picks some form players it thinks in needs to try and squeeze them all into the starting lineup

 

If I were Vardy/Mahrez/Kante I would be going all out this summer to get a move. Their stock is incredibly high and they could all get moves to some massive clubs and make a fortune, and probably guarantee themselves opportunities for CL football for the duration of what ever contract they sign.

 

Agree 100%. They hit a massive purple patch that is not guaranteed to continue.
I would also add Drinkwater as his ability has been artificially enhanced by Kante in my opinion

 

Whilst I completely agree that the Leicester guys might not ever have a better time to move, it interesting that we're here saying that they should move having just finished 1st, and yet after summers of finishing 6th or 7th or 8th, so many Saints fans are critical when our players leave.

If you leave after finishing 1st, you can leave after finishing (say) 7th.

 

Have we had any solid links to players? Or is it the standard meltdown first, repair second summer?

Well, typically you give a new manager a bit more to spend to help lure him in. Maybe we'll be making some decent signings this summer - when AVB arrives!
