Just read that Neymar is currently on £70k a week. A "pittance" when you consider that some really mediocre players in the premiership are on double that ... ;)

Either the lad's agents must be really slow or the player's love for the club trumps all.

Now City seem set to buy Laporte from Athletic Bilbao for a reported £39m - and he's injured too with a broken leg and dislocated ankle ................. so that is two injured players with uncertain recoveries bought on the one day at a cost of £51m - madness. Fit players must cost a fortune these days

Tbf we bought Van Nistlerooy with a fcking awful knee injury :bandit: IF his knee recovers, Gundogan for £21m is a fcking bargain.

Not strictly true. van Nistelrooy was expected to sign for us but did his knee (which was already suspect) in training.

Ferguson promised he'd still come back and sign him, once he had recovered. Which he did, Ruud was proven to be fit again by then though.

This Gundogan is still very much injured I think.

As I've said, once the knee-cap goes it is prone to regular recurrences without surgery. Surgery itself can permanently restrict movement in the knee, so Gundogan is a risky signing whichever way you look at it. As for Laporte isn't a broken leg and dislocated ankle the exact same injury that Valencia suffered - it certainly took him a long time to recover and he never quite got back the pace he had prior to injury, so again, a massive risk for the money.

It's just odd that they're signing players who have long term injuries. Surely it would be better to do a RVN and commit to signing them once they'd come back and performed again for their current clubs.

I thought he failed the medical first time around, then we pulled the plug before he was injured. He did his ACL a few weeks later, so obviously the medical picked something up.

He then had reconstructive surgery on the knee and half a season to prove his fitness again, and we only signed him the following summer after the medical was passed.

Gundogan is a very different kettle of fish - his more recent injury is the latest in a string of them. He's only been fit around 60% of the time at Dortmund, and that's without the higher burden of games in the PL. Massive gamble imo.

Also wtf is Vardy doing considering signing for Arsenal? Why would you consider going from the PL champions to a side that are perennial bottlers in the league and CL?

At least stick it out with Leicester for one more year and see what they can do as a top seed in Europe.

He's pushing 30, hasn't had much time in the top flight and they'll double his salary. Plus Arsenal will have a better season than Leicester. Perfect storms are rare occurrences!

Thought you were saying his injury caused the move to fall through, whereas I thought the move fell through before that. I remember the media saying we had missed out on him and it was a bad decision, then the injury happened and everyone was lauding our great decision!

Doesn't matter that much - was just bored this morning whilst waiting to get picked up, and couldn't remember the exact series of events.

True, but probably not so good as to actually see them challenge for any honours. If he was going to a club that actually wins stuff on a regular basis then maybe, but Arsenal is an odd one imo.

Also I thought there were rumours around that Leicester would use all their sponsor and TV money, and the fact their wage and expense structures are so low, to make Vardy and others amongst the best paid players in the league. Arsenal will still try and shoehorn him into their wage structure, so he probably won't make all that much more by moving, and they will ditch him as soon as he stops scoring, whereas Leicester would probably stay more loyal to him.

Apparently his agent approached United first.

Adds some strength to the rumours that Sanchez is on his way out - unfortunately we were mentioned as a possible destination for him.

Yeah, but if you think about it, Leicester could well be fighting relegation in few years when their star players are gone. Whereas, Arsenal is almost guaranteed Top 5 finish. Therefore his 4 year contract with bumper pay is guaranteed. It's a no brainer for Vardy and I think even Leicester understands.

Gundogan injury record over the past 3 years, is bad.. out 2 years from last 3 years with 2 very serious injuries, not to mention other injuries here and there .. if he is getting this amount of injuries at such a young age, things will only go worst from that.. I can see him being the new Owen Hargreaves
