The two i'd hope to see come through to the 1st team (carling cup) are Sterling and Coady, both brilliant prospects. is it true the rumour i heard that Wegner has buggered most of the youth set up at Arsenal
We should have a fair chance. Had a look at Barca's under 19 team's results there, they weren't very good at all. Nice to see our team has some real experience win Robinson, Flanagan, Wilson, Shelvey all having PL game time and some European experience (Wilson, Shelvey).
Wouldn't most of Barca's kids have played in their B team last season though, Aurelio's Favourite Doctor? They finished third in the Segunda Division last season.
I was being pedantic about the under 19 tournament not actually being for just under 19s. Will my fellow Spurs fans please stop misunderstanding me!
What about '92? You can have three 20 year olds in your team/squad. They could pick Thiago Alcântara, for example.
I'll bring in the Souls of Mischief to explain the rules on eligibility for the Under 19 tournament.
Fair point, can't see them picking him though, it's more about the European experience for the youngsters than winning the thing.
I think this is part of the problem with England. We look at the results of our youth teams and if they keep winning we think the players will be future stars, and if the results are poor then we think nothing will happen. All the emphasis is on winning, no matter what. But in places like Spain the result isn't the most important part. Okay it's importanr but it's more about teaching players technique and how to play football the right way. I agree it should be good having our yuongsters test their skills with foriegn teams who are technically better at keeping the ball. They should be able to learn a few things that will only make them better players. I think we should be trying to loan a few of our younger players out to foriegn teams to improve their technical skills, rather than down to teams in League 2 who are just going to lump it long where they won't learn anything.
Would you say losing Comolli had a negative effect? Is 'Arry's penchant for older players responsible? He seems to be interested in any ageing player this summer: Joe Cole, Miroslav Klose, Drogba....
We've signed 40 year old Friedel and 16 year old Coulibaly so far this summer. I don't think 'Arry's particularly motivated to bring in any youngsters for long term benefit but he'll play them if they're good enough. Levy handles our transfers, with 'Arry and the scouts helping his decision making. We don't have many players over 30 at the moment so I think our balance is pretty good really.
Since the premiership began Spurs have had two home-produced players and they are Slow Campbell and Deadleg King.Well thats one more than Chelsea who have had 1 Josh McEachran..John Terry doesn't count as he was a West Ham youth product.
If you're only counting very first club you can give us Beckham, Crouch, Young off the top of my head. Totally flawed argument.
