http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/36301892 Seems like the club have missed out on a good player as he is joining Crawley. I suppose Cook prefers to get players who are white from the reserves of Sheffield United, Wednesday or Bolton.
Webster is reportedly going to Ipswich as a player exchange deal with Matt Clarke: http://www.itv.com/news/anglia/upda...pswich-town-set-to-land-highly-rated-webster/ I would be against that move because I want to keep homegrown talent at the club and Webster is one of the better youngster but Clarke wouldn't be a bad replacement I suppose. If you take emotion out of it then it's a decent deal.
Good Luck to Webster! Hope he is a huge success there and can be art of their promotion bid next season.
Sorry to see Adam Webster leave, but as MAJR said, Matthew Clarke is a very talented young defender, and I believe we are to receive around £400,000 cash in addition. A good bit of business by Paul Cook, and hopefully enough money to buy both Marc McNulty from Sheff. Utd., and even Caolan Lavery from Sheff. Wed. !!
PFC have made two offers so far to Chesterfield for 27 year old winger or attacking midfielder Jay O'Shea. He still has one year left on his contract.
Now that Brian McDermott is a free agent I would make this a priority signing. This guy has a wealth of knowledge in the game and is far more likely to spot a gem of player than Paul Cook who seems to have a rather narrow perspective in his recruitment strategy by the looks of things. Going back to Chesterfield for a signing. He should look at what Reading have, ( a division higher so would have better quality players), Same with Crystal Palace, Charlton.
Pompey have been linked with 21 year old midfielder Duane Holmes, who is out of contract, and released by Huddersfield Town. ...................and tell you what Ides, he is coloured.
According to The News, two triallists have been sent over to Fratton Park by Guy Whittingham - Jordan Knight an 18 year old centre half, who is English by birth, but lived in Spain most of his life. He is a youth player with CD Alcoyano. Secondly, Herold Goulon (25) a midfielder who is 6'5" tall, and ex-Blackburn Rovers. He is a free agent, currently in Greece. Also having trials (and due to play in a behind closed door friendly with Aldershot) are Danny Wishart a winger with Hayes & Yeading; Michael Bryan a winger with Harrow Borough; and allegedly striker Ryan Bird !
Have just read that Paul Cook is after Danny Rose - no, not the Spurs & England right back!! - but the Northampton Town midfielder who is out of contract, and has not yet signed a new contract with them. He is 28, and 5'7" in height, and a former Man. Utd. youth/reserve player. Also suggestions that we are keen on bringing back to FP, Kieron Freeman, whom Sheff. Utd. are apparently keen to offload. I can see why they don't want him, and from what i have seen of him whilst playing on loan with us, we don't want him either
Danny Rose has said no to the Cobblers, and signed a two year contract with PFC, citing our fans as the main reason for his decision.
Rather underwhelmed by this news. I would like to see strikers of West African or West Indian heritage purchased.
Pompey are after 27 year old striker Lee Novak on a free transfer from Birmingham City. He scored 15 goals last season whilst on loan to Chesterfield, and they and a number of other clubs are after him. High wage demands may be a problem for us though.
An even better bit of business by the club, as according to BBC Sport, we received both Matt Clarke in part exchange and £750,000 in cash. Well negotiated Mark Catlin. Let us hope there is a sell on clause as well !
Pompey seem very slow off the mark this summer. Another three weeks and the pre-season training starts again. Pompey need a goalkeeper, and strikers who can score goals. Start looking in the London area Mr Cook and not Bolton Wanderers Reserves for a nondescript striker who made no impression at Newport, so how he ended up at FP for a few months puzzles me. Furthermore if Cook continues to bring in these kind of players, then I have my doubts about him. In fact I would prefer Brian McDermott, recently released by Reading.
Ides - now is not the time to even consider replacing manager Paul Cook with comedian Matt Lucas. Just a question of being patient.
Personally I think it's better if we're not making whole sale changes this window. A few area's to improve of course but I'm a big believer in continuity breeding success. We've had far too many players come through the club in the past few season and no settled first team. It's about time we started building on the foundations we've laid instead of ripping them up and starting all over again.
News today; Pompey want to sign Cal Baker, a 33 year old attacking midfielder who has been playing in the Championship for the MK Dons: http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/football/pompey/pompey-chasing-attacking-midfielder-1-7422678 We're also trying to sign 25 year old defender Kieron Freeman from Sheffield United: http://footballleagueworld.co.uk/portsmouth-keen-to-sign-versatile-full-back-from-sheffield-united/
