The 2016 summer transfer window opens on Thursday, June 9. The 2016 summer transfer window will close on Wednesday, August 31 - two and a half weeks after the start of the 2016/17 Premier League season.17 May 2016

Do European leagues have different dates?

While France's Ligue 1 has the same transfer window dates as the Premier League, there are slight differences in Spain, Germany and Italy, according to FIFA.

The summer transfer windows in La Liga, the Bundesliga and Serie A do not open until Friday, July 1.

However, like England and France, the transfer windows in the top flights in Spain, Germany and Italy all close on Wednesday, August 31.

Vince, the transfer window in England does open on the 1st July, mate <ok>

Like every year the summer window officially opens on July 1, but players, agents and clubs will be discussing contract terms and final fees long before then. With Euro 2016 taking place in June, you can expect plenty of deals to be announced early as clubs hope to steal a march on their rivals.

In my eyes, surely the manager must want his signings done and dusted before the start of the season. We have always left things to the last minute and after we have played 3/4 games, maybe this time table will make us be more diligent and fastidious in our choices of signings.

1st July probably because players contracts tend to run to the 30th June, maybe for tying clubs into providing any care for some injuries picked up in the last few weeks?

    from Wikipedia
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transfer_window
"Although, in England, the transfer window formally opens on 1 July, transfers between clubs in the same association can take place as soon as the last competitive fixtures for the season have been played. However, many transfers will not be completed until 1 July because many players' contracts expire on 30 June. International transfers cannot be made until the window has opened on 1 July"

Maybe. But i still dont think there should be one.

Start day after season ends. Close day before new season begins.

    Thats it for the season

    It's equal for all now.

I agree though, squads should be decided at the beginning of the season, I don't mind the season starting before it closes, it allows managers to see what they might need to adjust.

Here's what I don't get. For example, Arsenal have already "signed" that Xhaka lad. But officially they can't have, coz the window doesn't open until 1st July. So...

    a) have they not "tapped up" the player since they have quite clearly spoken to him before the window has opened?
    b) what happens if he breaks his leg tomorrow? Can Arsenal say they never signed him as the window's not yet open? Technically, isn't it impossible for them to have done his medical yet since he can't have "officially" signed as the window isn't open?

    I don't get all this ****.

He's just not allowed to be registered to compete for Arsenal before the 1st of July mate.

He's Arsenal's property though, if he broke his leg he'd be out for the season and Arsenal just wouldn't register him for competition.
