With countries preparing for friendlies etc. ahead of the Euros in France a number of the lads are getting call-ups. Amazingly among the Jazz Richards - Chris Coleman obviously didn't send a scout to the Brentford game.

    The names so far:

George Williams and Jazz Richards have been named in the 29-man Wales squad for their pre-European Championship training camp in Portugal. The camp begins on Monday 23rd May, and manager Chris Coleman will then whittle his party down to the 23 who will travel to France.

Ross McCormack has been named in the Scotland squad for their friendly matches against Italy and France. They travel to Malta to take on the Azzurri on Sunday 29th May, before moving on to Metz where they’ll face the European Championship hosts on Saturday 4th June.

On-loan centre-back Michael Madl has been named on the standby list for Austria’s upcoming friendlies and the UEFA European Championship. Team manager Marcel Koller has named an initial squad of 24, with a further 16 on standby, for their fixtures with Malta and the Netherlands, prior to the commencement of Euro 2016.

    And ...

Cauley Woodrow has been named in the England U21 squad for the Toulon Tournament this month. Gareth Southgate’s side will take on Portugal (Thursday 19th), Guinea (Monday 23rd), Paraguay (Wednesday 25th) and Japan (Friday 27th) in Group B at a variety of stadia in Southern France.

[Good on Cauley given how frustrating this season must have been. With only 14 League appearances (13 of them as sub) he still managed to be our 4th top goal scorer with 4]

A couple more senior players are off on International work:

Jesse Joronen, celebrating his new contract, has been called up by Finland for friendly games against Belgium on Wednesday 1st June in Brussels and Italy in Verona on Monday 6th June.

Lasse Vigen Christensen will train with Denmark’s first-team squad at a training camp from 23rd May. He has been called up for the Danish Olympic team’s preparation tournament in South Korea. They'll take on three other sides who will be competing at the Olympic Games in August; Nigeria on Thursday 2nd June, Honduras on Saturday 4th June, and South Korea on Monday 6th June.

[NB The potential clash of dates between the Olympic Games and start of the new season.]

    And ...

Jesse's fellow keeper Marek Rodák has been named in the Slovakia Under-21 squad for a Challenge Trophy tournament. They've got matches against Ukraine in Poprada on Wednesday 1st June and against England in Sutton on Sunday 5th June.

Moussa Dembélé has been included in the France Under-20 party for this month’s Toulon Tourmanent, which takes place from 18th-30th May.

    And .. a couple more:

Tim Ream and Emerson Hyndman (well he's still with us in body if not mind) have been called up by the USA for their training camp and friendly match against Puerto Rico. The camp is in Miami, then they travel to San Juan for the actual game on Sunday 22nd May.

Ross McCormack played the first half of Scotland’s 1-0 defeat by Italy yesterday.

"The Fulham man led the line on his own in Malta, an unenviable task up against the Azzurri’s experienced back-three of Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini. The Italians dominated from start to finish, but Gordon Strachan’s men went into the break level courtesy of a combination of some good saves by David Marshall and wayward finishing.

McCormack was replaced by Steven Fletcher at half-time, and 12 minutes later Italy scored the game’s only goal through Graziano Pelle’s accurate finish from the edge of the box. Bournemouth’s Matt Ritchie had a late chance to equalise in a rare Scotland chance, but he could only find the side-netting with his shot

Jazz Richards and George Williams have made the cut and are in the Wales 23-man squad for the European Championships.

Chris Coleman’s side begin their first major tournament since 1958 with the Group B opener against Slovakia in Bordeaux, before facing England at Lens’ Stade Bollaert-Delelis. Toulouse is their final destination in the group stages, where they’ll take on Russia.

Before the tournament, Wales’ final warm-up game pits them against Sweden in Stockholm on Sunday, and afterwards they’ll head straight to their base camp in Brittany.

Really pleased for George Williams. Does anyone know if Trolloppe and/or Kit Symons are in Coleman's coaching set-up? With Bairdinho in the Northern Ireland squad, plus Roy, Ray and Chris Smalling for England, it's good to see a large Fulhamish contingent.

Paul Trollope has gone to be the Cardiff manager, Captain. No confirmation yet that Kit will be Cookie's right hand man, but pretty much a given.

Jazz Richards came on for the last 7 minutes (replacing Aaron Ramsey) in Wales' impressive 2-1 win over Slovakia.

Georgie Williams stayed on the bench. Well done to Cookie Coleman; has to be a great confidence booster before Thursday's game.

Oh, and just remembered .... wasn't there something about Hal Robson-Kanu (who got their winner today) being on a free in the Transfer In thread?

Four years ago today, at the age of 16, Georgie Williams signed for Fulham. On Thursday (with any luck) he'll be taking on the might of the Lions in Euro 2016 .

"Electrifying, athletic, exciting – words to describe every player who is capable of getting the fans sat on the edge of their seats. Wales’ George Williams certainly embodies the meaning of those words, and today it was his turn to have a chat with FAW.Cymru about his career to date, his fearless nature and how an unlikely source started him out on his Wales journey.

“Running at defenders is what I’m all about! I’ve always been one of those players who aims to pick the ball up out wide, then my first thought is to try and take someone on, using my pace to get a cross in, or get a shot away. Hopefully that could be a useful tool for Wales in the future! I was never actually that quick as a kid, but as soon as I grew up and realised that I did have a bit of pace I tried to build my game around that. I played in the youth team at Fulham, which is where I really started to develop, learn my craft and what it meant to be a wide player."

    For Fulhamish memories only

The stats give our two ex-legends as 40 and 37 repectively - that's their ages; both have actually played for Hungary about two-and-a-half times their ages. And didn't they do rather well in the game. Better still, they'll be boldog with their team's start to the tournament - Hungary 2 Austria 0.

Oh, and Gabor Kiraly gets two wee records to his name: oldest player in the tournament and the first Magyar goalie to keep a clean sheet at Euro Championships.

And .. Zoltán Gera was MotM... Rating 8.44 (Tackles 7, Interceptions 3, Clearances 3, Key passes 1)

You're spot on rosc. The Gabor Kiraly clip was meant to be light hearted whereas any stuff about Tony 'Denzil' Warner would be quite the opposite. He was the original Jekyll and Hyde, which 'aint good for a goalie. His Wikki entry is as good a summation as you'll get:

"Upon his return to Fulham he played against Leicester City in the FA Cup, but then signed on loan for Norwich City until the end of the 2006–07 season as a replacement for the previous loan goalkeeper; Celtic's David Marshall. On 12 August 2007, after an injury to first choice Fulham goalkeeper Antti Niemi in the warm-up before The Cottagersgame at The Emirates against Arsenal, Warner was forced to be a last minute replacement for Niemi, but despite the circumstances Warner impressed and kept countless shots at bay, but two late goals denied Warner a clean sheet and Fulham lost the game 2–1.

In the following game against Bolton Wanderers on 15 August 2007, Warner dropped the ball after collecting it from a Nicky Hunt throw-in and gave former team mate Heiðar Helguson a goal for Bolton, but somewhat redeemed himself after pulling off a full-stretch save from Nicolas Anelka and Fulham won 2–1.

On 18 August against Middlesbrough, Warner gifted debutant Mido a goal, after Warner mistimed a shot from the Egyptian and the ball bounced off his chest and rolled into the back of the net, as in the Bolton game, he somewhat redeemed himself after pulling off a full-stretch save from central defenderDavid Wheater. Warner's mistake this time affected the score, with Middlesbrough winning 2–1."

A few other talking points in that game - eh what, Mr Schwarzer!

"With Niemi still injured and Warner regularly making mistakes, Fulham manager Lawrie Sanchez, brought in Kasey Keller on 23 August 2007, to provide cover and competition for Warner and Niemi. On 25 August 2007 Warner sat on the bench for the game at Aston Villa. On 28 August 2007, Warner played and kept a clean sheet in a 1–0 victory over Shrewsbury Town at the New Meadow. After the game Niemi returned from injury and Warner was third choice goalkeeper behind Niemi and Keller."

Cookie knows how to put the pressure on - with the score 1-0 in his favour and 15 minutes left to play he brings out Jazz Richards to warm up

Hard one for the neutral with NI having two of our ex-players on the field and Wales still leaving wee Georgie on the bench. More difficult since NI were the better side on the day. However, c'est la vie so well done Chris Coleman. Belgium will be a breeze.

Well done Chris Coleman and the whole Welsh team.

Have said it a number of times in this thread, Robson-Kanu is on a free; go get him. The new Bobby Z who McCormack would feed off.

Thunderclap to Iceland despite losing to a bit of quality tonight. Guess a McCormack (14 million quid) in prize money is a nice consolation though.

I heard Robson-Kanu on the radio earlier, saying that despite having offers from all over the world, he's decided that he wants to play in the Premier League. On the assumption that any Premier League clubs are among the multitude of offers he's considering, it seems highly unlikely that he'd consider a Championship side now. Sadly, I think his wonderful turn for his goal against Belgium has scuppered whatever chances we may have had with him.

Cookie missed two of his key players tonight and not sure his team selection was perfect. Especially his subs - why not get wee Georgie on?

However, what a tournament they had.
