There do seem to be a fair few takeover threads, is this the official one and the one worth keeping an eye out on?
Sorry to piss on your bonfire but despite all the selling talk for the last two years the Allams are still checking to see if they have the motivation to carry on running the club.
We all know what they're going through, poor things. 10000 fans have recently questioned their own motivation to stay with the club.
It is absolutely huge for CoC. Before Saturday the only sporting theme I'd heard planned for CoC was, and it could have been predicted, a play about rugby league and the rivalry between fc and rovers.
Why is everyone going on about Duffen? Isn't the former City chairman backing the US bid supposed to be held of 'high' esteem?
From "The Anlaby Road" History part 18 :- ". The ground was used for military activities during the war years, and by 1986 the County Council had taken responsibility for the Circle, their involvement leading to major improvements and many new facilities."
Thanks but it doesn't say whether the County Council bought the freehold or just rented it. I always thought the County Council bought the freehold but Tubbylard has got me thinking. Maybe it was already owned by the City Council and the County Council just rented it.
In the article found the following. Print too small for my eyes. "Plans for a recreation ground and public park on land belonging to the railway company north of the Anlaby Road, were first proposed as early as 1861, when talk of the possibility appeared in the Eastern Counties Herald newspaper. A 50 acre site was finally purchased from the North Eastern Railway Company in 1878 for £1,400 per acre, and in a council meeting in March 1884 it was agreed that the land should be “thrown open to the public, with steps taken at once to use the site as a public park”
Looks like the Circle belonged to the City Council then unless they then sold that part of the site on to turn it into a sports ground. Thanks for the hard work.
On reading the article I initially thought the ground was acquired by Hull Cricket Club Limited who vacated their ground at Argyle Street but they must have had a tenancy. The latter also gave a tenancy to a polo club including stables. What Ho !!!
