We have debated ,on here, about more than one player that we would want to sign for our great club, and also who we would not want.Like most fans,I can't wait for the season to start. However, I did not expect us to lose at Burnley!!But,my point is that our so-called star signing has not yet signed for us,and none of us fans know who he is.We can all speculate, and I hope that the marquee signing is Adam Johnson!!I did not want a certain Frenchman, and I hope that Quinn and Bruce were throwing a smokescreen when the rumours said we wanted N'Zog,but the truth was that we wanted Johnson. For me,he would be the final piece in the jigsaw!

I doubt it will be Johnson as it was reported earlier today that Manchini wants to keep him

Agree with Lostinvegas. All of this Adam Johnson talk is ridiculous speculation and it already seems to be coming a saga upon this board even though we've never declared any interest and Mancini's never declared he's available.

Forgot he existed. Would be such a good addition to the squad it's untrue. Don't think he'd go for a stupid price either, would need to be done on the quiet though to stop the big boys sniffing around.

No chance with Johnson, but Honda would be class.

I think we need a striker and personally i wouldlike Hugo from Wigan. I think him and Gyan would be a right handful!

I think this thread, in its early stages, shows the problem with being a football manager, who to get and why.

My own view is I have no idea but live in hope that Quinn and Bruce do and the we will sign no more is just that, talk.

The team and squad, IMO are fine, yes we can improve but we are fine, its the impact we need. That signing that makes us jump up, the wow factor and yes it needs to be on the left or up front.

I think it will come but dont know who it will be.

I have absolutely no idea who or if we will sign before the end of the window. I'm tired of trying to second guess Bruce and Quinn (or B&Q as I like to call them!) as I always get it wrong! They always seem to get someone (as the Americans say) "straight out of left field!" ie someone we never even thought about or considered or who we thought capable of getting. I think the squad is looking a lot healthier but I think B&Q know what the impact of a top draw signing will have on us the supporters. If we don't get anyone else in I will be somewhat disappointed but let's not forget we have made NINE new signings! No one else has come
close! And these new lads are still getting to know each other which is why I'm looking at yesterday's result as a mere blip! It's good to get players in early but i must admit I love the excitement of transfer deadline day and I'm sure we'll get that major signing! I'm sure we'll do it...... If we B&Q it!!!!!!.......I'll get my coat!

Its hard to answer unless you are privvy to the conversations at board level and what the managers actuall budget is. It would have you believe atm that no one will come in unless we get rid of the deadwood and even then we may be dipping into the loan market. I think striker is a much bigger priority for us than the left side. We have Steed, Rico, Vaughan, Sess, Colback all who can play there. People may say they are merely covering there and its not there best position but the simple fact is you CAN'T cover strikers. They are a different breed, does anyone really want to see us that short and desperate that we have to put a centre back upfront again? People who say we don't need to replace Bent because we might have goals from midfield this year, well how about having a 20 goal a season man AND the prospect of goals from midfield, wouldn't that be something? We already know we are losing Gyan for upto 5 weeks but if he gets injured for any considerable period we are up s**t creek without a paddle. We can't expect two young strikers still learning their trade who've never been close to this level to score us the goals we require. Sessegnon isn't a striker nor has he ever been. We need an additional striker ot I fear a dissapointing season.for us.

Why is it ridiculous trying for Johnson? It depends on what paper you read whether he is available or not?

He wants more games. Surely family ties, local lad, virtually guarenteed most games and our potential counts for summit.

Ok then, IMO we could use a Johnson or someone similar, maybe a proper lb, but I don't think we NEED anyone, we have enough midfielders to cope, 4 strikers and if we add very many more players the team simply will not gel in time for the season. I wouldn't be surprised if we sign nobody else.
