I agree with most of that apart from the fact if clattenburg wasn't a coward they could have easily been down to ten men on a few occasions.

He even shook his head at some of the crap they did. Now if he will be that consistent in the prem fair enough. Doubt he will sadly and will send a player off.

Better team won, but it was how they went about it that annoys me with the talent in that team.

One but that was stupid was when Atletico player was fouled but managed to get up and had a clear run at the centre backs but he decided to bring it back for the foul not play advantage.... Same thing he did 3 times in the fa cup final!

Don't know if anyone on here has heard of Monchi, but this guy is the secret of Sevilla's success. Just look at the players that he's spotted and brought into the club. Then look at how these gems have come and gone yet the club has continued to succeed bcos after every big sale he's managed to replace them with another gem.

When asked about scouting in the Prem this is what he said....

I forgot about this guy a few years ago as he's been around for a while. One of the best DOF in Europe imo for obvious reasons. Rumours today that he's finally leaving Sevilla. Could be coming to the prem. Whoever gets him will be bloody lucky tbh.

Dunno about strikers. They've wasted a lot of money on the likes of Vietto, Martinez & Cerci in recent years. They just seem to sign a lot of strikers!!

Its not like Griezmann, Falcao etc were unknowns before they went to Atletico either!

Torres, Falcau, Costa, Griezmann, maybe not total unknowns but hardly chased by the "big clubs" until they suddenly caught the eye at Atleti :emoticon-0100-smile

It's not so much they're known or unknown, it's the fact that each has been a perfect fit at Atletico. Hit after hit after hit everytime a striker has come in after the previous one has left.

This is exactly what Monchi is getting at when he talks about PL sides getting lazy bcos of the money. You still have to scout properly not just expect a signing to work bcos they're a "name". It's the same with Berta and Atletico.

Yep, players to suit the team brings consistency instead of disruption.

EDIT.....this is where letting managers pick their own players can cause major problems, a DoF should produce a list of suitable players for the manager to select from whilst also taking the managers options into account.

To be fair I don't think Torres has done THAT well for them. He's only considered as doing well because he's scored slightly more than he did at Chelsea. His goal record at Atletico is nowhere near what a top European striker should be!!

Oh yeah, but he came from their youth team so they didn't really sign him.

They only buy loads because alter a year or two someone comes in and snaps them up for 30odd mi.

    Forlan
    Torres
    Aguero
    Falcao
    Costa
    Greizman

Any club would be happy with 1 or 2 of those players in the last 5 year but Atletico have managed to get everyone of them up either a top level or WC level.

    Big thing on this.

A DOF often gets a lot of stick in this country but that's because no one has managed to use it properly.

A club should have an identity based on it's past and a DOF should be trying to sign players who can fit into that style of play. A manager should then be selected in the same way a player is. Manager is picked who plays in a style that fits the club. It's not different to buying players.

It's like a club wanting to play with high pressing forwards then signing Balotelli & Benteke to play that game then wondering why they don't work <doh>. Or like a club being known for playing quick attacking down the wings and hiring LVG then Mourinho to bore the death out of them with dull football <whistle>

Seriousness, with a DOF, club should be picking manager that fits the style in same way manager would normally pick a player to bring in.

That way, if that manager moves on, you bring someone else in similar styles and you don't have to have a huge reshuffle every 2/3 years with a manager that wants to play a completely different way. DOF doesn't have to pick a whole bunch of new targets because the players identified for previous manager still fit the style so will still do a job etc.
