In all the games and all the grounds he's played, Edwin Van der Sar has elected his performance in a Fulham game against the Arsenal his best ever. [ Back in 2009] Reflecting on his Premiership career, Van der Sar picked out a performance in a 0-0 draw against an Arsenal team who went on to be unbeaten champions for the season as one of his best. The goalkeeper stopped Arsene Wenger's team from scoring at Highbury for the first time in 47 matches. “We played at Highbury against Arsenal and I made four, five, six, seven, eight one-on-one saves with [Thierry] Henry, [Dennis] Bergkamp, with [Robert] Pires, so we drew that match with Fulham," he said. "It was a 0-0 and for myself it was one of the best matches I’ve played." Here's a link to his interview at the Oxford Union and some great Fulham footage in the first part of the video include in the article: http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/...0516-van-der-sar-reflects-on-bpl-career.html?
I remember that game well, we were stuck at the old Clockend at Highbury, and VDS pulled off save after save, but we gave Arsenal a good game and had a few chances. You could tell the Fulham fans after the game, the ones with the wide grins on their faces. Didn't happen very often but I remember Arsenal fans congratulating us in the pubs afterwards. It was very strange there were alaways rumours of VDS being wanted by Wenger, but he wouldn't pay our asking price (£2m), the rest is history as ManU signed just after he signed a new contract with us (Thank You VDS). The 3-3 draw in 2012 was another highlight
Talking about grins on faces, Berbatov signed my son's programme after that one. Bit of agony right at the end mind, followed by double grins. Here's the highlights to relish (probably Bryan's best game for us):
