Good article, and particularly interesting. I rarely post on here but frequently read the various items posted. The reason I rarely post is because I feel as a long time but now distant supporter, and not in a position to put my money where my mouth is in terms of supporting the club, I have little right to express my views, but, another reason is because of the crap so frequently posted on here, and the vitriol directed towards the Allems. For all their faults, debatable and spurious as they may be, I for one cannot ignore the way they saved the club, for the benefit of the supporters and the city of Kingston-upon Hull as a whole. Without them we could be looking at no Hull City at all, or even a National League side, let alone competing for another chance at Premier League football. When we consider the possibilities for the club without the Allems, I find it reprehensible to read some of the attitudes posted here - and thus the attitudes towards the impending final expressed in this article. sometimes it seems the people posting on here would love us to lose the final on Saturday just in order to satisfy and justify the vitriolic attitude towards the Allems, and Bruce, both of whom have actually done a remarkable job considering where we were when they started, and given our long history of underachievement!
If Allam had his way there would be no Hull City at all. He's been very public about this on many, many occasions. Said it a thousand times and I'll say it again - Id rather have Hull City in the conference than Hull Tigers in the Premier League. Some things are far important to some of us than on-pitch matters.
In my opinion, I think all we need to do at The KC is create an actual 'singing section' of the stadium. I know we have the North Stand, but I think we need a bit more than just that. I think part of this area of the ground needs special rules that encourage hostile atmospheres, like banners, chant conductors, relaxed rules on seating, etc. The first club I'm aware of that did what I'm on about was Crystal Palace (Google 'The Holmesdale Fanatics'). I'm sure we're all aware of their 'Ultra' section of the ground. I know their singing section is a bit nerdy, and on closer inspection isn't as imposing as on first glance, but it definitely makes an atmosphere, and a much improved atmosphere for what they had before. It used to be Stoke with their "wall of noise", but now Crystal Palace's more modern, continental take on atmosphere is what everyone else seems to try to emulate. I've noticed in the past year or so on away days, some other grounds have copied this and made a singing section of the ground. I'm thinking Middlesbrough, Derby and even Bury had a proper singing section this season, and they had to move from their seats to accommodate us! These ares of the grounds have drummers (I hate these though...), flags, massive banners, unique chants (Derby's: "we're gonna bounce in a minute..." & "If you don't f-ing bounce, you're a red..." springs to mind. I have to say though, they copied Palace's; "We follow, we follow, we follow...") and so on. Surely it wouldn't take too much organisation to make this happen at City? Even if it's just a small section, like 1 block packed with our 'fanatics', it'd be interesting to see how infectious the exuberance from that section can be. I've noticed at the grounds mentioned before, the chants soon spread around most of the stadium. I know we already have fan groups like the 'City 'Ulltras', so I'm sure people would be up for this. It's mentioned above how some people simply don't want to sing. Maybe that's the case, or maybe you don't want to look like the only idiot singing in your section of the ground. I notice for big games at the KC, the whole stadium is often bouncing for the first 5 minutes. Then if we don't score, we go quiet. Its then just the North Stand trying to sing on their own. Either way, that's the sort of stuff that kills our atmosphere. Do we think this could be a possibility??
If I ever chose to kiss somebody's arse I'd learn how to spell their name beforehand. Thanks for adding to, and attempting to reignite, the ****.
If we lose on Saturday am quite happy to see Wednesday go up, don't have any bad feelings towards them at all. I quite enjoyed watching them in the late 80's and 90's and they have done nothing much to really offend me, so what if their fans are over-excited, thats football. Good luck to the Owls after we beat them.
A fair number of ideas were considered by some fans, with a view to expanding it to wider groups. Sadly, for reasons unknown, it was blocked/delayed, and not by the club.
I had a steel shed once, £250 from Argos, it was ****e, every time the wind blew, it sounded like that fat **** Leicester fan banging his drum
The person leading it was unable to continue and nobody else was willing to take it on, as you're well aware.
A good article, but one that expresses reprehensible attitudes? Strange description You feel you have little right to express your views, but then express them in a way that's stronger than most who do feel they have a right. You feel others views should be censored or condemned. How odd Are you distant geographically? I certainly feel distant emotionally I won't want us to lose any game, it's just not possible, but I'm about as close that I can be to wanting it because I don't want promotion. No doubt you find my views reprehensible, but from reading your whole post I'm quite pleased about that. Can the people who made the 'Irrelevant' T Shirts knock up a 'Reprehensible' one? I'll have one . Cheers
Nah, if it's anything like last time it's just another damp squib. I can see why some would prefer and alternative version to reality though.
I just read the last couple of pages of that "inflatables" thread on Owl talk someone posted a link to (on a thread I can't find now). Has this board ever been that giddy about anything? They're like school girls planning for Prom (BTW when did that become a thing in the UK?!?!) I'm not confident about the game at the weekend, because I find it best not to be when you support City, but I'll really feel sorry for them if it goes our way on Saturday and they're all sat crying with their face paint running and jester hats drooping........ (Well obviously I won't care to be honest)
100% agree. Do Yankee kids celebrate Bonfire Night? Do they arse. Id wager 99% of British kids going to a prom dont even know what it's short for.
