Thanks for the link, DTLW. I suppose I should be the last one to take a newspaper's word for anything in sport rumours, and if I'm going to be true to principle, I have to treat good and bad rumour exactly the same [something like that Kipling thing]. As far as it goes it is a good thing which lightens the heart, but it is just as insubstantial as a bad thing if it hasn't actually happened yet. I'll wait until Ronald and the Club tell us before I start doing wheelies on the bike. But it certainly made me feel good reading it, so thanks again DTLW.
Heard a rumour today that the reason Ron has changed agents is that the old one asked saints for permission for Everton to speak to Ron.....without his knowledge......Ron wasn't happy at all hence the change of agent.
Sounds plausible, but also sounds like something resulting from a rumour gaining credence by repetition. But hey, let's do our bit by spreading it.
Personally I'd doubt the validity of that, as Koeman is under contract to Soton, therefore if we wanted to speak to him, we'd have to put a formal request into the club ourselves, and no such request has been made. A more plausible explanation might be that his former agent also represents De Boer, who has firmly chucked his hat in the ring for the job, so it might have been agreed that there was a potential conflict of interest? If the press are to be believed then Koeman is about to commit to Soton anyway, however they told us that we were getting Moyes back (which aint happening) and signing Hart for £40m yesterday lol.
Press can be both right and wrong at the same time. Right: Koeman staying. Wrong: Moyes and Hart. Who would you want after Koeman?
Koeman was the clubs first choice I'm told. If he's no longer an option then I think we'll end up with Pelligrini, which wouldn't excite me at all. My personal choice beyond Koeman would be Emery.
Emery would/should be fantastic if you could get him. Like RK though, and genuinely with no disrespect meant to Everton, I think he'll be holding out for something bigger.
If no such option presents itself this summer, and Everton want to pay him way more to replicate the same level of success he's had at Sevilla though, he may just take it. I've got to say, if I was an Everton fan (and I do love having RK as our boss), Emery would be my clear favourite over Koeman, De Boer, and Pellegrini. Trouble is, as you say, he may be more difficult to land. Any of those options though, give them good hope of improving for next season if they get it done quickly in time for proper transfer dealings, and pre-season.
Just a follow up on this lads, the same source who told me on Monday that Koeman remained our first choice and was still definitely in the frame, despite the press articles to the contrary, has just confirmed that Koeman has now told us 'thanks but no thanks' and is now definitely out of the running for the Everton job. We've therefore moved on to our next target who we're meeting today. Cheers
Glad that this little media love triangle is over. I will be paying close attention to Everton as I have a supporting brother. Good luck for this season.
