Good Morning Everyone, It is looking increasingly likely that Cellino to meet Bristol Rovers' demands and push ahead with appointment of Darrell Clarke. The compensation package is likely to be in the region of £250,000, though how and when this is to be paid is still up for debate. Cellino is in Italy at the moment (celebrating his former club Cagliari promotion back to Serie A). It is also known that he has been speaking to at least one other candidate whilst there. Clarke seems to have a wining mentality, which, if that can be installed into the players could tip the balance in our favour. This appointment could be absolute brilliance or a complete disaster.
Morning all. All managerial appointment carry a huge element of risk, Clarkes no different. Scum have spent a fortune on Moyes, van Gaal and Jose and what have you won Elland, one fa cup. Good to see Cellino trying to improve on what we already have. He could have taken the easy option and re signed Evans but he is clearly ambitious. All good
Unless Cellino stops interfering it will not make any difference who he appoints. He might as well do the job himself.
Morning All Apart from Robinson, Clarke's seems to be the one name I'm most excited about. He's got back to back promotions and league 2 top scorer last season. It excites me more than 'Insert Generic Italian Name Here' coming in a manager.
Cellino is obviously looking at our squad believing it is good enough and that our problems lie not with the quality on the pitch but the coaches he appoints. The Season ahead will be just like the previous two, difference is finding a willing coach to take over at the mad house will get harder and harder. Antenucci has already said we are lacking in everything from training facilities to the food being served. Cellino is running us like a Sunday pub team, Clarke is a first class idiot, Cellino will ruin his CV he should steer 100 miles clear of us. Morning btw
Agreed but... Yet another lie to add to the long list of Cellino lies, it wasn't long ago he said he couldn't work with British coaches.
Let's face it if he fails with us a lot of people are going to put it down to the insanity effect of Celino. This won't ruin his CV. Slight mark but hey it was Celino
I have no respect for anyone wishing to take over here, they must be either idiots or after a quick pay off.
I don't blame ya but we need a manager and if Clarike's too stupid or too daring and wants the job then let him have it
For younger managers from lower leagues it's not so much the case. People want to prove themselves in difficult circumstances and a lot of the time the reasonable thoughts about the job will get overlooked. I don't see it ever working with Cellino at the helm but inexperienced managers won't see it that way. They'll see it as a potentially career defining moment.
There lots of difficult owners at various clubs, coaches and Managers have to work with them. Liverpool and Spurs have committees that vote on signings. Do people honestly think any owner is going to present millions to a new manager and give him full control over who he buys then discover six Months later they've wasted it scum have replaced van Gaal while under contract with Jose after winning da cup. I don't hear them whinging though about van gaals treatment by owners
Henry Winter summed it best: What is wrong with your local businessmen, they need to do a proper deal and oust Cellino now before it's too late. It makes no difference who the manager is, look at Warnock as I was certain he would get us promotion, but fighting with one hand and all that. Warnock still in demand and working despite his Leeds fiasco. How are we going to be better this coming season, when we have kicked out a load of kids and sent back some decent loaners and then got rid of players like Mirco. You think anyone coming in is going to be better than those we kicked out? no chance as we are still doing it on the cheap We dont have a good Board as its dictatorship and unknowns involved. We dont have facilities as TA is run down and boarded up with no staff. Players probably doing their own washing ffs. Why spend a million when you can get a player for £30. Why have a manager when its pointless due to Cellino. The situation will not get better until either Cellino gets rid of GFH and he decides to invest in buying ER, sorting out training facilities and beefing up the squad with quality. Newcastle are already promoted in my view so now leaves only 2 places. Everyone hates the owner up there but look who he is investing in as manager who will have a guaranteed high budget. New owner at Villa see waht they do as that could be yet another promotion place taken leaving only one.
Its likely theyve little or no interest in it Doc. Theyve had numerous opportunities and chose to keep their shillings safe, and who could blame them. And there lies the nub of the proble, for those that want Cellino out, there is no alternative with money to burn
Steve Parkin summed it a while ago: At least £100m needed straight away to buy the club and make a start at promotion. Club has no assets as we dont own anything except contracts. Villa went for £60m but they own ground and training facilities and will only need a few quid to invest in players to guarantee promotion next season. We are nowhere and not even guaranteed to be able to stay in the championship like this.
I don't really care about an owner having money to burn. I care about having an owner who speaks honestly to the fans of the club, runs the club in a sensible manner and has integrity. Employs staff that know what they are doing and understands how to give the club the best possible chance within a budget. Essentially what a good businessman would do. We haven't had an owner like that for god knows how long
Leeds United @LUFC 4h4 hours ago Today we remember #lufc's greatest ever manager, 27 years on from his passing.
But they will need money to burn just to buy club, grounds, training pitch and a transfer fund. Would need to be mad to touch our club. Thats why none are interested and it will likely remain that way
Need a certain amount to buy the club, yes. But anyone thinking that someone is gonna buy the club then pour 100m into buying the ground, training pitch and players are kidding themselves. If someone bought out Cellino and GFH, didn't promise what they couldn't do (ie. Buy the ground back if they aren't able to), was open and said that we would be wheeling and dealing with prospects from lower leagues and put in place a proper scouting network for both manager and players, hired football people to do the football jobs then I think the vast majority of supporters would be happy. Obviously there are always some people who would dislike the owner but running the club well isn't about shoving money into it to keep the problems quiet. Thats short term thinking.
