I'm told Mr Allam has cancer and is refusing treatment due to his religious beliefs. Basically he's dying.
I'll dedicate this one to my uncle Eddie, who took me to my fist ever City game. All I really remember of that game, is that I couldn't actually see anything. He didn't miss a home game for decades, but never saw a game at the KC, he refused to sit down, so stopped going as a protest. RIP Ed.
I like your post, as you have captured the reason I started this thread - not something I do very often. Everyone is different, some are very focused on why they support, or follow (as you put it) Hull City, others might have lost touch with their beginnings and I hoped this would be an opportunity to review them, remember individuals, groups and occasions that were important to them starting their journey with the club. It isn't about Allam, or Bruce, I wish them both well; any griping against them can take place elsewhere, this is about restoring a good thing in our lives, our memories of why we care. We are The Tigers, let us keep this dignified and sincere, let us share with each other why it is not just Saturday that is important, but everyday, past, present and future; put a stake in the ground for someone or something that played a role in that beginning or continuing for you. UTT
My reason for supporting Hull City was my Uncle Eddie (Not the same one as OLM). He wasn't actually my uncle but our family grew up with them. For my first game, Eddie took me and his son (my best mate) away to Chesterfield with him and my mates grandad watching another Eddie (Blackburn) in goal. Uncle Eddie had been going all his life and from what he told us spent most of his time in the same place in the clock stand (North to those who don't know which one it was). Later on he progressed to standing behind the dugout in the well. Sadly Eddie died in 2007, and could only dream about the dizzy heights we have reached since. I said to my mate the other day who's dad was Eddie about reading what someone on here put after the second Derby game, "I wonder if we will get our usual end at Wembley?".... Usual end at Wembley? What would Eddie have said about Hull City having a "Usual End at Wembley". I hope we can repeat the fantasy of 2008 and journey once again BACK into the promised land.....
I can't really dedicate my start to watch City to anyone other than my sports master who ran the football team, who gave me a pass that got you in for half price.
not forgetting City's boys no longer with us, Sinbad, Jamie Hughes, Ted Cooper, Joey Laws, Greg Carrill, Dave Lumb, Lee Jackson, Graham Colgrave, Gav Hawker, Chillo, Guy Pettingale, Podgie Porter, Carl Rooney, Allan Green, George Foster, Tim Peacham, Nick Barnwell, Kev Hunt, Darren Creighton, Taff Leathem, Puss Platten, Neil Hall, Mike Glen-Williams, Neil Brindley, Pete Robbo, Mark Wilson, Mark Miller, Andy Priestman, Adey George, Alan Hooper, Mel Simpson, Hull City AFC – Terrace brothers for life RIP
Not being contrary just for the sake of it, but fair play to Steve Bruce. Doesn't care about popularity, says what he feels even if he knows some will be annoyed. Timing not great admittedly, but maybe there's not much time left for him to say it.
Actually yeah I should of said support as a follower is just someone who latches onto the "big" teams and never goes. They do not understand the week in week out feel of actually watching a club for decades...This I feel is why some owners dont feel what we feel.
My uncle took me to my first match so I owe him for getting me into City, before that the players were just names on Grandstands teleprinter to me. He's not a City fan either, not actually sure who he supports to this day, more of a casual sports fan.
I'll dedicate my life long support to an old uncle of mine who lived on Beverley Rd,he took me to my first game back in 1969,he died some years ago so he never witnessed our meteoric rise.Alex Greig Thank you.
My old man first. Then Mark (who at least got to see us in the Premier the first time round for a couple of games) and Neil and Steve (neither saw us in Premier at all).
Spot on ^^^^^ this. We are all very lucky to have had the years we have had since we moved to the KC. Many supporters have passed away not having had or known such times. My thoughts will also be with those. Most of us will know someone who has. My dad and uncle who took me to my first game back in the 60's. Both had passed away by 2005.
I'd dedicate it to my Mum, she died 2 years ago this August and had her 60th birthday on the day we played in the FA Cup Final. She gave me her blessing to go saying I could make it up to her the following year. I never did get that opportunity to make it up to her. She died suddenly and unexpectedly less than 3 months after her 60th. I felt really guilty going to games for a while after that, even home games. Only recently has the guilt subsided. Life's short, enjoy it, I'll be taking my 6 year old, hopefully he'll witness the real Hull City ripping Sheffield Wednesday apart on the pitch.
I hope that flags going to Wembley. Be nice to get a picture of it. Sad how long some of them have been gone like Gav H. Anyone know when Nicky B passed away? I took penaltys as a kid against Eddie Blackburn at BP. Slammed em in
