Yes, Phillips got injured if I remember right, 18 years ago, that makes me feel old, I remember the weekend like it was yesterday. I'd probably have to agree on that match being the most exciting but it was a pretty poor first half with Mendonca scoring just before half time if I'm not mistaken. Other games for excitement would be Spurs 3-1 a few years back, Bent scored after a minute in front of their fans, scored a pen, missed 2 and Zenden scored a screamer. A close contender for that could be Burnley at home as well on that Friday night where Edwards let loose the biggest rocket since Apollo 11 took off!
Sadly, we didn't rip any teams apart under Moyes, it was a fortunate win for us from some sublime individual skill from the young kid.

I always bring up this match when these threads are up, the 3-2 v Burnley when Edwards hit the hardest shot in football history (fact...). Atmosphere, importance, scenario, it was a night not a single soul who was there will ever forget.
Man City at home in the FA Cup 5th Round. Skunks away in the 1990 play offs. Charlton at Wembley in the play offs. Shef Utd at home play off semi finals. These are just a few of the stand out games that came to mind.

I agree - there have been some amazing games over the years but the atmosphere at that game was the best I've heard at the SOL (Everton later that week and Sheff Utd joint second!). The game as well was fantastic. Ebbed and flowed - 0-1, 1-1, 1-2 then 2 of the noisiest celebrations I've ever heard (and I've been to the Nou Camp and the Bernabeu to watch games whilst on holiday!) The play off final in 98 was pretty special - our best Wembley performance in those days - as the Milk Cup, FA Cup and previous play off offerings were dire!
Losing the Charlton play-off set us up for the biggest winning margin in any League the following season as far as I can remember. It was something like 18-20 points. There were some great games that season, like beating Oxford 6or7-0. Quinny and SKP were just magnificent.
Aye it was a real emotional rollercoaster, I was knackered afterwards. Our goals were good too, Khazri's especially obviously. It felt like a culmination of our season and the relief and joy was overwhelming. As much as I enjoyed the Everton game it felt like a formality in comparison.
We, at the time, were also the only team to beat every league team we played against that season (in England anyhow) not sure about now! I think it was Birmingham to who came to the SOL having beaten us at their place - we'd already beaten everyone else that season but we brushed them aside! Was a great season that one! As much as I love being in the PL for this long, the championship seasons have almost always been fantastic!

I know mate. Never mind we were allowed into Blackpool for a night out. Only trouble was we were one of the few bus loads that the chief of police allowed. There wasn't many people about too early in the season I think
If my old brain remembers right, and there's no guarantee on this, we had 2 7-0's v Oxford & Tranmere. What a season man. Edit - just checked Tranmere was only 5 I must have been pissed. Ha. What was remarkable about the Oxford 7 is that neither Quinn or Phillips played or scored. Dichio & Bridges took the absolute piss that day.
