    He's better than the ones you mentioned although Martinez could probably handle the Championship well, but the guy I thought you should have got when McClaren left was Pearson and I reckon that if you had you'd be the ones looking down on us from the prem.

    It's Rafa's motivational skills that I'm sceptical about and you'll need that to come back up. There's only so far that endless charts and PowerPoint presentations will take you when you're playing Huddersfield away and you've lost the last two matches. Pearson would have given you that fire yes he's an arsehole but that's never stopped you before. In fact it seems to be in the 'Pro' column of the God of Newcastle United's checklist.

    I'd rather have a manager who has experience and knows what it takes to get a club out of the championship than a manager who, where he hasn't had a ready made team, has failed at every task! Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid, inter Milan etc. All top clubs with top players when he joined. Look at his record at every other level he's managed. He had Newcastle in a position where he could've made a fist of keeping you up but couldn't get his team past the teams he needed to beat.

    Poyet is manager or Real Betis in La Liga. He went there straight from his previous job as gaffer at AEK Athens.

    FYI

    To be fair, your fans can't give toon fans much **** for waiting to hear Benitez's decision in anticipation. You lot were in a similar boat last season with Advocaat and sent his wife flowers.

    You know what it's like to have a manager you want to keep.

    If I was in the Mags shoes, I would really hope he said no, and open the door to a Nigel Pearson, Chris Hughton type of manager..

    It was today in 2009 that the mags got relegated after Villa beat them. (Gotta love villa). With Mesiah Sheera in charge.
    <party>

    Also relegated were WBA and Boro.

    Much has been made by the Jawdee nushun bouncing back at the first attempt. But so did WBA. But obviously they learned a lesson unlike the orcs from NE1 bigtop as they once again plummet into the mire.

    <party>

    Hopefully to stay there for eternity, or maybe Villa will send them down to league 1.

    Deluded ****wits

    Aye too true - but Advocaat was a manager much like Benitez who was not used to the situation he found himself in. Maybe that's why I hjave the opinion I do about which manager I'd rather have - not one who's only succeeded where everything's already set up, but one who's been through the mill of the Championship and knows what's needed to get you out of it!

    In their situation I'd rather have Pearson than Benitez. If they were pushing for top 4 in the Premier league every season then Benitez would be a very good fit

    To be fair, if asked last season, I'd have thought that a Newcastle under Benitez would more likely finish top 4 than a Leicester under Ranieri. So if the town do come back up first time under Benitez I wouldn't be too surprised if they really pushed for a top 4 spot. Without witnessing Leicester's season however I would have thought that the statement in my previous sentence could only be described as absurd. Basically, after Leicester's season, anything can happen.

    It's easy to say that now mate, as they got relegated and you stayed up. Pearson is a poor manager in my opinion, he's not a Pulis/Allardyce type of guy, he's a chump with a temper who's being talked about as if he's got a string of successful teams in his past.

    There's no way on earth Pearson would have got more goals out of that team than Benitez did, that's what let them down, the strikers just fluffed everything, it wasn't about losing in the end it was about not winning. They were unbeaten for about 6 games was it?

    I just don't get the 'different animal' mentality of the Championship, the be-all and end-all is, they're ****ing worse than the Premier League, that's why they're in the division below, people talk about it as if it's a gauntlet of physicality and demonic monsters, it's not, it's just ****ter players and more games.

    I'm not a Benitez fan in the slightest, the guy has been a laughing stock to us for many years but I'd rather have him any day over a guy who's level is a league below where I aspire to be.

    With Conte, Pep, Klopp, Poccehtino, Mourinho and Everton's new owner looking ready to splash, it will be a long time u too there is a Leicester Mk 2.

    You can't give them enough credit, right place right time took full advantage and made history.

    Our first stop is a deserved top half finish, ideally within 2 years.

    I fancy West Ham to push on next season, they're kitted out for a big challenge with owners who'll have a go and a manager who's no chump.

    Gotta agree actually, Bilic is a cracking gaffer look what he's left at Besiktas.

    The league is looking as strong as it's ever been, Stoke as well will improve further, they are very close to very good as well.

    There's always room for someone to step up though, we've as good a side as we've had since we've been back up if we but right we can hopefully start to step forward.

    I've waited 35 years another couple won't kill me!

    They could come straight back up. Of course it`s possible.

    It just seems to me the way the mag press is peddling it, if Rafa stays it`s becoming expected. Not a sensible thing to do imo.

    No he never, (I don't think Benitez has relegated Newcastle either) but he was giving you hope that you'd be turning the corner.

    Maybe they'll send Benitez's wife a paella if he remains with them.
