I was going to post something derogatory about Wotton earlier, but I thought better of it. Didn't help though. Little bugger.
2-2, not bad, would probably be happy with that scoreline if we played Yeovil away in a cup tie. According to Solent, we dominated the first half with what is probably our first team.
I am not worried about any of the results so far this pre-season; win, lose or draw. Its about building up fitness and being ready for the start of the season. Which I think we are, it was good that Lambert got a game under him as he said he only had 30 mins in the last two matches (inc.Bilbao/Bremen). Nice to some confidence coming through the team even players like Forte are giving Adkins a headache. Also, apart from Chamberlain I think everyone has come through the matches without injury so hopefully we will have a full squad to pick from for what is going to be one hell of an opening game!!
Just got back, all in all a good workout for the lads. We had some good moments, some not so good. Seaborne had a good game with Fonte at back first half, he looked much better than the Jedi who when came on looked pretty rusty indeed! Martin looked ok but I think a crap clearance of his led to the 2nd goal. Forte mazy run and sweet strike was quality. De Ridder looked good, lots of flair and looked happy taking on 2 defenders at a time once they doubled up on him - made lots of runs but no one really passed to him, Guly got him in a few times. Cork is quality does a bit of everything and get's involved. Guly was his usual self, flashes of brilliance and madness too although for some reason the Glovers had it in for him and he was floored at least 4/5 times. Thinking about it they were being pretty aggressive for a friendly the first 5 mins were taken up with Harding getting treatment! Yeovil made an announcement at the end wishing Nige, his backstaff, the players and Saints fan's all the best next season, nice touch. All in all twas ok, but I thought we looked a little too relaxed at times even for a friendly seeing as next weekend it's Leeds and it was the last time for the players to impress. Lala was just strolling around, and whilst looked good on occasions too many of his short passes were just cut out or blocked, he just missed his usual spark but I hope he and the rest of the team were just taking it easy. Oh yeah, our 1st goal was nice, straight from the training ground - we should get a few goals that way this season. Connolly can get some important goals for us too if he carries over the form from end of last season/this pre-season. Although I think a forward with real pace would be awesome as Connors and Lambo aint the quickest - although based on his performance today, could Forte be that man??!
On the taking it easy comment - I think the players just didn't want to risk injury by over doing it, especially at this stage.
