Our version was "lampies", Two lamposts about 50 yards apart, garages on one flank and garden walls the other. Usually about 3 or 4 a-side. Hardest game I ever played! x
It could happen you'd just have to be more skilful and the crap kids would be filtered out of the game by passing motorists.
I remeber playing this in the square where we lived and this cocky little tw*t had just scored against us with a fluke deflection. I thought right ya tw*t am havin ya for that. Dribbled past about three kids and smacked it at this kid standing in the way. Unfortunately it was a Jonny Wilkinson effort and soared over the wall and straight thru the old womans window. The little kids scattered and like a muppet I stood there and faced a tirade of justified abuse from this hag. PS, it was embarrassing cos I was 23 at the time.
I would like to point out at I hafd just come in from work and was being Brian Glover out of Kes. I would like to point out I do not play with kids
I was asked to leave the derby this year with about 10 minutes left for confronting a racist. I missed Mitrovic's goal. Throughout the game, this bloke in his 40's was saying some utterly disgusting things about Defoe, starting from when he scored and ran to our end. Defoe heard him at one point in the 2nd half when he was on the 6 yard line for a corner, glared right at him. I'm surprised it was never brought up post-match. I turned around and told him to shut up a few times through the game, and lost my rag finally towards the end and aimed some pretty colourful language at him and said I would go and get a police officer if I heard another peep out of him. Obviously, the thug he was wanted to knock my block off and he was restrained by his mates. A steward came over to find out what was going on and came to the conclusion that we should both leave. I wasn't in the mood for a fight and wasn't that bothered as I couldn't see us scoring anyway and was pretty depressed with our performance, so I just shook my head and left. The thug kicked off and I have no idea if he was eventually thrown out or if he was left in his seat. What upset me more about this incident wasn't the racism, but the 100+ people who must have been within earshot and never said a word. Not when I was shouting at him, not when the steward came and asked me to leave, not a peep. I don't know if this is just a problem at our club or if it's the same anywhere else, but I don't think racism is gone in football.
Why would you want our police armed, Tel? I think they do a stellar job now and can't think of many occasions when having all our officers carrying guns would have been beneficial.
Ok. Tell us about it when mad mullahs are running amock in the metro centre. You have just came out of a handbag shop. And pc plod has pepper spray and a truncheon AK47 v pepper spray..
When has having armed police thwarted a terrorist attack before? Half the American population is armed and it doesn't save them from mass shootings on a VERY regular basis. Terrorist attacks are one of the thing that you can unfortunately do little about other than with intel and pre-emptive strikes. I reckon overall more innocent people would be killed if officers were armed.
This thread was about good old days v modern. Sadly modern is violent and a constant threat. Your pacifist theories dont work in todays society.
Haha. I'm anything but a pacifist, believe me. I'm just not sure if arming regular PC's is the solution to this issue. Thanks mate. It's really made me question whether or not to go back tbh. Was ashamed of my club. The only other stadium I've sat in on numerous occasions is Elland Road and even there I've never even heard a shred of racism.
I'm not having the conversation, great thread that I'm not ruining with a side-debate. Maybe another time, another debate.
Tits. Much better in the modern era. Less udders drooping. Less hairy trouts. HD Frankie with no stupid music.
