No Brasil native should be signed unless they are currently NOT owned by a club in Brasil.
Put it in the Spurs transfer target check-list, Levy.

    ^Brasil ^South America.

Domestic tournaments that don't align with the PL season. N party ownership aggro.
    Is it worth it ??

I suspect that his dad's trying to put his name out there during the transfer window.
    We'll see.

First of all, Brazil and Argentina are both south of the equator, which means that spring, summer, autumn and winter all occur six months after they do in the northern hemisphere - they aren't "wrong" because their seasons don't fit in with that small part of Europe situated between Seville and Munich, not least because football does not and should not revolve around a handful of clubs who just so happened to be members of the G14.

Secondly, because a few matches don't fit in with the English season, does that mean we should pass on any player who will be present in the Copa America, Euros or Olympics? The Copa America takes the whole of June, the Euros goes June-July, while the Olympics takes place in August - the first two options can severely limit the amount of time a player has in pre-season (let alone the thought of them getting injured on international duty), the Olympics actively interferes in our first few fixtures - in fact it probably will, given Son is determined to represent South Korea while it's likely that Denmark and Algeria will call up Eriksen and Bentaleb respectively.

Also, the seasons do actually align to a degree: the Argentine season is February-May before winter break and resumes July-November, while in Brazil the Campeonato Paulista is January-April, then a break before the Campeonato Brasileiro runs May-December - and both of them play the Copa Libertadores May-July. So to put it simply, signing a player in June on the proviso the club's participation in the Libertadores is over isn't in any way different from signing a player and waiting for them to return from the Euros.

And let's be honest, plenty of European leagues don't match the Premier League's August-May schedule. The Bundesliga and Ligue 1 seasons are August-December and January-May, while Russia and Croatia are July-December and February-May, and in the latter case would that mean we should pass on Witsel or Coric if they became available at the end of the January transfer window as they hadn't played in the best part of two months? Or should the RFU have players struggle through the Russian winter in case some Bundesliga team wanted to sign a new full back?

According to the Standard, Wet Spam are trying to loan Calleri for next season.

So for those of you keeping score, that makes it at least three players (namely Batshuayi, Lacazette and now Calleri) that we have been linked with for several months, and at the last minute the Spammers suddenly appear out of nowhere giving it large about how they want to sign them.

It hasn't occurred to them that the reason Man Utd and Chelsea have been able to get away with that **** is because they have the funds to make it worth the players' while - which is why Lacazette publicly snubbed any talk of joining the Spammers a few weeks back.

Barca have released Sandro Ramirez, so if we have any interest the deal has gone from £7.8m to £0.00

I'd be nervous about this one, given that no more than 6 months ago word on the street was that we were reluctant to sign because they wanted to insert one of their buy-back clauses in his contract. To go from there to released in such a short period of time is worrying.

The way Barca announced it certainly comes across as douchy, too...

"Last summer Sandro had an offer to leave...We evaluated at that time the situation we had as we could not sign players [due to a FIFA ban] and he made an effort to stay with us. We are very thankful for that.

"But there was a date, May 1, that we could have extended his contract another year, but after the way he has behaved, we believed it was better to open the door for him to explore other opportunities."

His stats are poor also. Not that that is the be all and end all, but 3 goals in 19 appearances (doesn't say if that is full games or 5 mins at the end) and 0 in 10 La Liga games last year is not exactly inspiring.

Most of his appearances were when the game was already safe, so usually with 10-15 minutes to go (but a couple of times with around half an hour) plus a couple of starts in the Copa del Rey.

The main concerns for me is he was pretty much dropped from the squad in January apart from one Copa del Rey match, and he's been out with an abductor injury since March - both of which say it'll take some time for him to be match fit which, given our pre-season is already getting affected by the Euros, Copa America and Olympics, is problematic.

    :::EDIT:::

Our good friends at the Wail have decided that, two days after it emerged we had an agreement in place for Calleri, we got bored of him and are instead focusing our attention on signing Batshuayi and Berahino. Errm...what?

Sticking with head-scratching stories, it's been reported that Moronho will offload Juan Mata and we're favourites in a story that sounds an awful lot like a dartboard was involved.

Despite what some "news" outlets are saying, I don't think there's going to be a lot of turnover. We've got a lot of young players who suffered with injury and hence didn't get the kind of run at the first team they would have liked this season, especially in the areas that look as if they might need reinforcing, viz. Mason, Bentaleb, Clinton, Pritchard, Son.

So, bearing in mind that our policy seems to be to go for youth, and that PL experience is pretty valuable, how happy/unhappy would you be if, say, our only two big signings were Wanyama (for Carroll) and Berahino (an addition, not a replacement of anyone else)?

For what it is worth, South American football journalist and Spurs fan Tim Vickery was on Talkshite today giving a less than glowing opinion of Calleri, he essentially said he does not think he is quite good enough, make of that what you will, but remember Vickery did also say that Paulinho would be the new Lampard <laugh>

    Certainly not happy.

We certainly need to look at central midfield, and just bringing in Wanyama will not cut it given Carroll and Mason are both set to leave, especially when you look at it from the standpoint that with Dembele banned until September and Bentaleb may well be at the Olympics that means we'll be desperately short of options in central midfield at the start of the season even if we do bring in Wanyama, as one mistimes tackle could lead to Harry Winks suddenly having a run of starts in the early season.

Similar can be said for bringing in Berahino. If the plan is to have Kane up front and Berahino on the left (with Chadli presumably headed for the exit) that doesn't in any way solve the problem of having no cover for Kane, as Kane and Berahino will both be starting the majority of games. Add to that what I and a few other posters have said over the course of the season about Berahino, namely how he had the chance to prove his worth this season but instead he stagnated due to being on a season-long sulk, he doesn't strike me as the solution he appeared to potentially be a year ago.

Using the rumours as a guide I'd be satisfied if we made two signings in the £20m+ range, namely Wanyama and one of Batshuayi/Embolo/Lacazette while the rest of our business was in the £10-15m range, specifically Coric and Tielemans. If we manage those four deals, and remember I said IF, that would be a good summer's business.

If I remember rightly, that happened because of his seat position in his car.

When Mourinho has signed all the players Utd are linked to, you're welcome to pick over the bones

But you've missed the boat for Joey Barton

£25m for Wanyama and he's yours....be careful though because as soon as a player leave Saints they become dog poo...
