    At least it's only a year. I'm surprised he accepted it given these quotes from April:

    “Next season I will probably move on. I want to play football again. This is the first spell in my career where I’ve not played, not even got a strip. It’s been five months maybe that I’ve not played. I’ve sometimes been on the bench but I’ve not played,” he said. “I’ve had a taste of what that’s like and it’s not nice. You train every week and want something to focus on at the weekend. That will come into my thinking.”

    "[...]I turn 32 in the summer so I’ll have a whole season at 32 and I want to play on as long as I can. I still feel fine during the matches – all I’m lacking is a bit of match practice.”

    I think Martin as a first choice CB leaving Pinto and Whittaker battling for RB is more likely than China's suggestion of Pinto as a winger, but we'll see. Whittaker can play both full-back positions, so I guess he could also be considered cover for Olsson should Brady move on and Toffolo not make the grade. It's not the most inspiring of decisions, but I guess we have to wait until September to judge the transfer dealings as a whole. Perhaps re-signing him frees up money for important signings. Or probably not, and I'll be apoplectic come September.

    As Robin Sainty says, we need a CB and a striker so why waste money on a RB back-up when we already have one?
