Don't take it black and white. They are not saying it is the MAIN reason. They are simply saying it can be part of a few things that help a player make a decision. It can be. Your example is a little daft don't you think? Would you have put Spurs or West Ham instead of Charlton?

You may actually be wrong in saying the club in question is the main reason; it may be the money. I said 'may' again

 

If I put Spurs or west ham then it would have made no sense because both those clubs are bigger and pay higher wages

Well no, because my point was that club size/wages is more important than location. Using a smaller club like Charlton makes sense...
It was an exaggeration to prove a point I'll admit, but it does highlight the fact location is of little importance when put up against money/trophies

Do you know what? I think I'll just leave it there. I obviously am not on your wavelength if you think comparing signing for Charlton is a closer example than signing for West Ham.

As a matter of interest though, you should re-read the first part of my post. Nobody has said it is the MAIN reason. Just part of a number of reasons Nobody would entertain Charlton as a sensible example.

 

You are clearly not familiar with the concept of hyperbole.
I appreciate no body has said it is the main reason, if you read my origianl message youll see all my point was, was that it doesn't make a huge difference.

 

My understanding is that they intend to loan him out so he can get more experience and more regular games.............I don't believe they think he has progressed as much as they would have liked so are currently looking to sign a stand in Keeper. Whether that be the guy they brought in on loan last year that covered for Forster or not I do not know.
In the longer term I think it is how Gazzaniga progresses in the next couple of years so will keep him on the books as Fran said.

But I also think that he enjoys playing for the Saints and probably feels that Southampton is close enough to London. Imagine if he played for Swansea - he'd shrivel up and die

The reality is very simple in my view............... the club has to be an attraction for progression for whoever, Salary, Manager and yes to a point even location. I doubt anyone would disagree with the first two IE, progression and Salary. As to the rest that is anyones guess, I doubt if anyone could actually point to any other particular reason as being a priority. I have been lucky over the years to have lived close to a few of Saints star players and have actually discussed these very points.
Kevin Keegan for instance just felt that Saints were the right team for his next move along with all that I previously mentioned. However a key was big Mac and yes the location strangely as he didn't want to go to London!! He intimated that a couple of London clubs were interested although he didn't say who. Alan Ball actually turned down a London club to come here for exactly the same reason......he simply did not want to go to a London club. I draw from that, that London is not quite the draw it is thought to be. Although times change and thoughts change too..............

 

Well Florence is nicer than Southampton!

 

Not all of it. The area around the ground is like a post apocalyptic industrial zone (or it was last time I was there).

 

That's a tad unfair on Southampton. Florence is nicer than about 90% of the other cities on Earth.

I leave 10% for the unknown.
