Seems to be the new favourite for the job. His career is on a downward spiral, having had some early success. If he takes the job it will be because he's desperate, and I predict he'll take us to our lowest ever finish, which will be lower than 13th, even if Diarra stays. This will cause Roland to either sell up or appoint a Network stooge.
I'm more optimistic in regards to him. Reading wasn't great, though a difficult time and Sheffield was underwhelming to say the least - but there's still a good manager there. He knows the division and what it takes to get out - let's see what support the board offer (that goes for any manager).
It seems to be going quiet on Adkins. What are the odds on Neil McDonald? He's worked for the odious Oystons, which will have softened him up, and it also shows that he'll work for anybody, no questions asked.
It's very hard to get excited about any of the names being floated about. We have incompetents in charge. Judging by yet another 'foot in mouth' outburst by the odious Katrien at the Observer recently, they have NOT learnt a thing and still consider themselves running the club well. Therefore, nothing is likely to change here regarding recruitment. We learnt years ago from Lennie Lawrence, Curbishley and Gritt etc that new young managers can do great things. Some of the people being floated (NOT Kit Symons) could probably do a job for us, but our regime thought that of Karel Fraeye so it's not likely they can diferentiate between a good manager and a bad one without suffering a relegation to demonstrate. Business very much as usual.
The worse manager they choose the better as far as I'm concerned. If we're bottom of the league at Christmas, having gone through another manager, the Serb in charge and protests reaching a crescendo, he has to sell, unless he wants to overtake the Oystons in a race to the bottom.
Definitely NOT Atkins for me. He managed the Club with the biggest budget and attendances in League One last season - and finished a pathetic 11th. The Reading fans also thought he was utter crap by the end.
There was more to the Reading situation to be fair. Two outstanding jobs One transitional One below par.
Billy Davies the new name linked. Would like him too - but wouldn't expect him to see November before chinning Murray.
He turned us down when we were an established Premier League side. If he took the job on now that we're a basket case club it would show how much his star is on the wane.
Billy Davies hasn't worked in how long, and can't even get a manager's job in the rag n' bone Scottish Premier League. No thanks. Can't agree with Super about Adkins - the Saints decision to bin him looks a very good one in hindsight. Atkins is a dour Northern monkey of the type that eats chip buttys and races whippets -I just don't see him as a Charlton manager.
God help us if Murray is involved in the recruitment process. Setting aside his recent track record involving Dowie, Reed, Parky and Pardew to name but 4, letting Muzza come back would be staggering.
