And look at the fall out from that. The number of RL fans in this city aged 50-60 is astonishing. Tubby and Edna made their choices when 'City were rubbish' and 'Arthur Bunting's FC ruled' (admittedly only over Bramley, Blackpool Borough and Keighley). The lost generation. Good riddance, but we could have done with their money and support over the last 35 years. Once people get out the habit, it can be permanent abstinence.
Never a truer word spoken. Since starting my new job, in which I work most Saturday's, and in conjunction with the ****ishness of our current owners, I've hardly been to a game this season, and can honestly say that I'm not missing it to any large degree. Well done Allam's, if your objective was to drive supporters away you're achieving it.
With respect to the council they are probably not offering a civic reception due to the fact the Allams have rejected them since their falling out.
I think its because the Council haven't the bottle to do anything without the Allams agreement and they daren't ask.
I don't blame the council for not offering a civil reception, they'd be doing so in the full knowledge that it would be rejected, so it's utterly pointless. No reason why they shouldn't be wishing the team well though and acknowledging what a big deal it is for the city.
I would have thought the Councillor responsible for Leisure, Culture and Tourism for Hull, Terry Geraghty would have had something to say about Saturdays Final and the fact that it is broadcast live to 185 countries. He had a lot to say when a Darts tournament and RL International were broadcast from Hull and how much exposure they would bring to Hull. Will the council be flying the City of Culture flag on the back of City's appearance in a major Final Will they bring themselves to wish the team/club well and will they be represented at Wembley ? Will they acknowledge that the outcome of Saturdays game is of immense value to the city of Hull in the way of free publicity and the amount of expose and the number of visitors a Premier League club would attract to the area. Or are they just going to ignore it ?
I see Look North were trotting out the lies about how much tourism and money League football will bring to GY. Yes, that's right, Cleethorpes boarding houses will be packed out this coming season as visitors flock to savour the cosmopolitan night life and balmy climes of the famous Lincolnshire watering hole. The HDM tried that line in 2008 alleging that thousands of PL away fans would spent the weekend here in the Marina with their yachts etc It did bring a boom in numbers but nowt like Levy trumpeted.
They obviously big up all the local supporting clubs, as you'd expect them to and that applies to all of them equally.
****ing hell talk about down in the dumps. Thank **** the seasons nearly over before people start falling into depression.
