If he's been given the rarity of a 3 year contract you can bet that the Pozzos have covered themselves with a huge number of clauses in it.
Pozzos have already changed their model to an extent. WFC is not based on player trading but on premier league survival and TV money. QSF did a great job but I think they expected a top 10 finish after the start we had and a greater use of the squad which QSF never seemed to be able to get to grips with. I'd expect next seasons investments to be rotated a lot more with a full squad development and target of top 6 finish, lets see.....
Try supporting a club like Arsenal! I came away from the league game at the Emirates feeling so pleased that I supported a club that I felt close to and one that had a soul.
I agree that the world of football in England has changed massively over the last 20 years but has it got better ? The lack of success of Premiership clubs in European tournaments over the last few years indicates otherwise - particularly when you consider that from the 10 richest clubs in Europe, 5 are from the Premiership. It seems that in football terms 'democratic Germany' is doing better than 'free market England' in this respect. German clubs (with the exception of Leverkusen and Wolfsburg) operate a 51% ruling whereby no private investor can take over more than 49% of the shares in a club - the majority always remains in possession of the club itself. So the kinds of millionaire takeovers common in England do not take place here. The 'owners' of Bayern Munich are the club itself, and it's 180,000 members. The name of the game here is continuity where the fan is central - when Borussia Dortmund last won the league here, season tickets for the next season costed a seventh of those at Chelsea - first game of the next season, 81,000 fans (24,000 of them standing). The difference is that football clubs here are seen as social and cultural institutions and not as pure businesses, which is as it should be. Outside of Germany the most successfull clubs are obviously Real Madrid and Barcelona - look at their ownership models, both clubs are owned by the fans themselves. The Premiership may make lots of money, for now, but it is not a success model in footballing terms.
People are talking about top 10 or top 6, Come on this is Watford 12th to 14th is fine to build on for his 2ond season .How many of our players would be 1st 11 with the top 6 teams ?
A word of caution Aberdeen... have you seen where the likes of you and me have come with our league table predictions
I'll be happy wherever we finish tbh. Higher the better obviously, a bit of flair and attacking football, personally love wing play and yearn for a repeat of Barnes and Callaghan.. Yes my predictions are errrrrrrrrr fallible...
Next door there are a family of German football fans. They watched the French Cup final last night as they said the football was better than German. At least I think that is what they said as there is a spot of language difficulty between us. At least I make an effort with two, whereas they don't seem to think that being in part of France is a problem. A bit like the English guy I once saw shouting at a takeaway owner who knew what he was saying, but didn't like being shouted at. Could it be that our new coach had already been offered a three year deal elsewhere, so something similar was offered? I have seen that a couple of other clubs would have liked to employ him.
