    No mate, long before that.

Couldn't hit a woman! No matter how crazy the bitch might be. My old man would come down from on high and clip me round the lugs!

I slapped my girlfriend once when I was at uni, it's a hell of a long story but the end of it was that I was physically carrying her back to her house from mine at about 6 in the morning, for the third time that night, while she was trying to scratch my eyes and kick me in the balls.

Even then I half pulled out of it, theoretically I believe that if men and women are to be truly equal then we should be able to hit each other equally but in reality I'm not wired that way.

My best mate took three consecutive blows to the head with a stiletto off an angry bird on a night out, blood started pissing down his face. As she went for the next swing he banged her square in the face and knocked her into next week, straight to sleep.

Every man has his limits, there's a big difference between hitting a woman and hitting a ****ing psychopath who happens to have a pair of tits.

That describes her well, best sex I've ever had and I've got some great memories of that but she had more than a few screws loose once she'd had a drink. On the night I was talking about she literally kicked my front door in, which was locked at the time. It was hanging off its hinges and she's a petite girl.

She had some story about stealing viagra from a taxi driver, **** knows what she'd been up to but I'm pretty sure she'd taken a load of viagra.

Had a few scrapes over the years, but never really started anythng.

I was a bit of a psycho in my late teens. i lost the plot coz me mam died quite suddenly, so developed angry young man syndrome.

I'm a pretty chilled out dude these days, and a fair size. so it's rare anyone comes looking to me for a scrap. If they do, I'd have to have had a really **** week, and be ravaged by alcohol to react, unless i had to defend myself, friends/family.

If I'd been drinking whiskey, it might be different, especially if someone starts to annoy me. Which is why i rarely touch the stuff, as much as i love the stuff - only in the right setting and frame of mind. It took me a while to realise just how ****ing aggressive i can get on it. and when the red mist rapidly descends, it is not good.

This is interesting. A few people have mentioned Whisky can make them more aggresive.i hate the stuff.

But a large amount of red wine has the same affect on me.

i've punched through walls on whiskey, in my youth, amongst other things.

a nice mellow malt at home in front of the fire is a different scenario though.

Im naturally quite aggresive, which has caused many a problem down the years. Must have over a dozen scars. One on my eyebrow after the range rover incident (as my earlier post). A nice one on the back of my head, where i got clumped with an old fashioned clay water jug they used to have on bars. Many on my hands and legs. Thats not including all the bust ribs etc.

I try to calm down, but trouble seems to naturally find me. But give me 3 or 4 bottles of red, i want to fight the world. Which is why i tend to hardly touch it. Beer im fine.

No, I did go to visit her again a few years later, for a shag basically, but she lives up in Barrow and I lived in Manchester at the time so it was a bit of a mission.

I made sure to let her down gently and that she had no way of finding out my address. On the subject of booze changing you I've never seen it affect anyone more than her.

Sober she was quiet, polite and submissive. Drunk she'd kick your bloody door off it's hinges.

I don't consider myself a violent man, far from it but i suppose i grew up in an era where you resolved your differences with a scrap on some waste ground. I never go looking for trouble or confrontation, but i do have a short (ish) fuse if trouble comes my way. I'm a hit first, ask questions later bloke.

As for the OP. 'Hard Man'? my granddad was a very hard man, not violent by any means but he ran his house very strictly and was almost impossible to please. I remember all the family use to visit his home on a Sunday, all the brothers, sisters, cousins etc, i could get away with murder cos i must have been his favourite, but the rest used to get his wrath if they stepped out of line.
By definition, i'd say he was a hard man, had very strict values and wouldn't bend, but he was far from violent.

Born in Hendon, raised in Town End Farm, moved to Washington aged 22 and now settled in Birtley.

Getting back to my granddad, he was probably no different to most blokes of that era, they were hard men cos they had to be. Living from hand to mouth and working down the pits all day long, trying to support his family and keep their heads above water.
