Martin Bain appointed CEO. Sunderland AFC has appointed Martin Bain as the club’s new chief executive officer. Bain, who is currently chief executive at leading Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv, will take up his new role at the Stadium of Light on July 1, 2016. Bain, 47, brings with him a wealth of experience in both the football and business worlds. He has overseen one of the most successful periods in Maccabi Tel Aviv’s history, which has yielded on the field success with a domestic treble in 2015 and Champions League qualification, whilst off the field he has driven strong commercial growth and transformed the club’s finances. Additionally, as a board director of the Israeli Premier League, he was integral in recently achieving an unprecedented central broadcast deal. Prior to joining Maccabi, Bain was CEO at Rangers Football Club and a director of the Scottish Premier League. During his tenure, the club won three consecutive league titles, reached the final of the UEFA Cup and regularly appeared in the group stages of the Champions and Europa League. Speaking about the appointment, Sunderland AFC chairman, Ellis Short, said: “I am delighted to welcome Martin to Sunderland. With his commercial experience, commitment to working closely with local communities and impressive track record of building winning teams on and off the pitch, I know that we have someone that can take us forward. “Martin will strive to transform our financial performances, which we acknowledge must improve significantly, into a stable and successful model, to give us a club that we and our fans can be proud of. In doing so, he will receive the full support of everyone at Sunderland AFC.” Martin Bain said: “It is a great honour and privilege to become CEO at a club with Sunderland’s rich history and heritage. I have been fortunate to be a part of a team that has brought great success to two clubs with passionate supporter bases and I am excited by the opportunity to do the same at Sunderland. “Sunderland fans are recognised as some of the most loyal and passionate in football. The backing they gave the team in the two recent vital home games played an integral part in the victories. Such tremendous support deserves a successful club and that is what we will aim to give them. “I am looking forward to working closely with the chairman and everyone involved with the club, and will endeavour to do everything possible to help the club to realise its potential.” Can`t be worse than Byrne surely.
So no PL experience but still a load of footballing and business experience from elsewhere. That'll make a pleasant change. Just going on the content of your post Pops, not a backward step. Certainly not a Byrne anyway! Time to swear the jury in, put him under the microscope for the next year or so and see how he fares.
Haven't got a clue what he's like, only time will tell. More experienced than Byrne but the rest of the spin means very little at this point.
A mixture of business and football experience has got to be a plus. Byrne had neither iirc. We wait and see again but at least it looks like Short is looking at the right attributes.
Maccabi Tel Aviv have come on leaps and bounds over these last few years after having a ****e time. They employ a sporting director over there and that happens to be Jordi Cruyff, who has done a cracking job in choosing the managers and players for them. On my thread about the summer transfers, I identified one of the Tel Aviv players, Eran Zahavi, hopefully he can recommend him . They are also managed now by the ex Vitesse Arnhem manager, Peter Bosz. That was another reason that I have took an interest in them lately because he done a great job with Arnhem and had them playing some lovely attacking football. If this guy is responsible for putting all that together and growing the club the way it is has lately, then this could be a very decent addition to the club...
I've just found a video of him on the Tel Aviv website, but I've no idea of how to put it on here, though. He speaks very well and he does come across as a very astute businessman, he does also seem to be a 'football man' Rangers fans are 50/50 on him. Some say that throughout their crisis he did reduce their debt each year, while they maintained a winning team on the pitch. Some say he is a spineless bastard and a 'self seeking, self promoting, arsehole'. One Rangers fan said Martin Bain was to negotiation what Pol Pot was to care in the community.
So we are non the wiser. If Rangers fans are split on him. But hes a footballing bloke. That in itself is a massive bonus after that dopey irish bike.
Probably not. She used hers to further her career and make loads of dosh. She done well on that front. She could have got them out for the lads like.
sounds like he has a good pedigree for this job. i wonder why Gers fans are split in him. coz he had to do a lot of streamlining given their earlier years of excessive spending - which ultimatey ****ed them or his personality is a bit business like? we have been run with a soft underbelly for too long, commercially. so i hope this bloke can weed out the ****ers at board level and run the good ship sunderland far tighter, but for growth.
In agreement except spin - his past achievements & successes - but he's now in a different & unique place where the unexpected regularly happens Hope successes to come & the past few years are well and truly Byrne 'd away - ROTFL
What about licking her mott. Would you dou that? Bearing in mind she's from South Armagh she's likely to chop your balls off, lol.
Be like a dying otter. Mind if she let me loose with a razor first. Tidy it up a bit., a squirt of fanny spray. Aye.
I've posted before ES needs to have wise football knowledge to enable him to make the right risks in football - as a successful venture capitalist he takes right risks in business world - all looking positive imo Now I must cut these abbreviations out .......
That a lot better. A few missing words but that's ok. Have you ever looked at Shorts history? Bit of a dodgy character.
