Yeah, but that's exactly why these things happen. If he totally sucked, he'd most likely be very happy to stay here and draw a big paycheck. And we would be the ones trying to push him out the door. If he were guaranteed a starting spot, he might be happy to stay and sign an extension.

But on Saints, he is at the margin. He has the ability to start for many teams, but he will have to work hard to get a place here. And he's also good enough that some big club might be willing to take him on for depth. He'll probably play less than he does here, but he'll make more money. If it were me in that spot, I'd kind of want some clarification about where and how often I will play next year. And if I can't get it, I'd want to at least explore what else was out there.

I personally think we will keep him another season, We can quite easily recoup 10-15Mill the following season.

    Or guaranteed starts.

He would have left last summer and we'd have got a bigger fee? :p

We shouldn't sell ourselves short either.

We've got three seasons in the top 8 and European football to boast about. That's going to help draw players to us over last seasons strugglers and newly promoted sides.
Plus I get the sense we're ready to go, this season has no uncertainty over European competition. Think Saints will make some early moves

I think we will, too. He got some consistent starts at the end of the season in a role that seemingly offered him a bit more freedom. And it seemed to suit him. He was playing well and from what I can tell from his demeanor on the pitch and interviews, he seemed happy.

Probably just needs a sit down with RK. "Can you tell me I'll get to play like at the end of last season?" "Can you promise us you'll be able to reproduce that form if we do?" "Yes." "Well okay then. Yes for us, too. Deal."

Is this coming from the same guy who said that Alderweireld was definitely going to be a Saints player again and that Clyne was going to sign a new contract...

Even though he has such a man crush on Pelle, he def plays better on the left when Long is upfront with Mane ON THE RIGHT

So we finish 6th, and go straight into the Europa League group stages. Sign Forster and VVD to new long term deals. Don't really get why so many players want to move on this Summer.

Really? Depending on who is interested we are still miles behind a host of other teams in the PL and majority of our players would leave to join them.

Spurs, Arsenal, Man City, Man United, Chelsea. Dont think any of those teams will pay what we want for Mane, and Tadic isn't consistent enough to go to them either. Juanmi, Pelle, Wanyama are all expected departures tbh, nothing really new there.

Who would be interested in Purchasing Wanyama? It's well known we won't deal with Tottenham.

Yeah but if they were interested then you could see why they would want to leave? Add Liverpool to that list aswell. If they go they go, not much we can do to influence it. We will sign replacements, hope they are as good and hope that we can have another good season next season.

Yeah I know there isn't, just with the amount of good going on at the moment it's just a shame. Just get the feeling Koeman won't stay if we lose another 5 players this Summer.

Not going to worry about this now, it is Mourinho's day, and who am I to spoil that. (Does today count as his first trophy?)

Is it just Saints who go through is , or will West Ham have it for Payet all summer, Stoke for Bojan, Watford for Ighalo, Everton for Lukaku, Swansea for Sigurdsson, etc. Etc. ??

My other worry would be that we only got Tadic and Mane in recently....will their replacements be the Black Box's second choice players or those positions?

I think he will if he believes that the club is serious about making a run at the top. It's a big moment for us, though, because he has been so explicit about what he wants to see from the board in order to sign a new deal. If he sees it and stays, it will be a lot easier in the future to convince players that we're going places. If he doesn't see it and leaves/opts to see out the final year of his deal, it will be a much more difficult case to make.
