Just looking back it seems SAFC have often travelled afar in pre season As far back as 1913 they did a European tour concluding in Germany. So the lads were kicking the Germans arse before the war. 1934 Spain. 1950 Turkey 2015 ****ing about in yankland. So where should this year be? Also. Has anyone ever watched them pre season. If so where?
I don't care where they go so long as they have a good pre-season although it would be good for the travelling lads if it was closer to home.
We normally have a couple of games against lower league local sides eg Darlo, Hartlepool. Maybe we could inc one against Newcastle.
agree, too far too travel, somewhere warm and Europe would be ok, or back to grass roots and stay in ingerland for once and concentrate on footy and a good start.
Half of our players didnt even travel due visa issues.. The pre season under Di Canio in Italy was a nightmare aswell. Other than playing a couple of local amateur sides we hardly played any competetive matches. Holland, Germany or Ireland would be a good shout. I hope we play Pools and Darlo at some point aswell. I always try to get to those games if i can.
How much is a flight to Edmonton Canada? We could all have a mass piss up in Horden's pub. What a ****ing meet up that would be!
Kevin Phillips' debut was in a pre-season at Brunton Park, Carlisle. SAFC have always played at least one fairly local lower league team - Hartlepool, Darlington, Carlisle, Gateshead, Scunthorpe, York, Berwick, and so on. It helps them, cash-wise, and I wouldn't want that to stop. Beyond that, a couple of good class European sides would get them up to scratch.
Who's the biggest team (apart from United) to ever play at the Stadium Of Light (your stadium, not the Benfica one)?
Since when do they do pre season at home? In fac does anyone know the answer. When was the last pre season match at home?
competatively? United, probably. Ajax were the inaugural opponents in '97. Sampdoria for Bally's testimonial. after that you're looking at international teams vs England. ...or concerts. are Take That a 'team'?
Yeah, I'd agree with that, after United, they're the biggest now. Seriously though, we're the biggest, there's nowt wrong with it, we're the biggest club to have played at Anfield as well.
I went to York for pre-season once. It was a glorious day. Got trashed down by the river. Don't remember the game much.
