Before I retired, I was a knife instructor (supposedly the fastest and most accurate in England). I must, by law, keep my skin-penetrating capacity under control. So why shouldn't dog-owners? Attack by either knife or dog is (or should be) considered a skin-penetrating offence and, therefore, imprisonable. If you don't want the responsibility, don't get a dog. Simples. I had to.
A ferrel cat attacked me about 25 years ago in my back yard !, it jumped up grabbed my arm and sunk it'd teeth in, it was like a horror film, I could not shift it either, my dad came in from work a few minutes later and said what the hell happened ? he could not believe me and we went straight to hospital for the tetanus shot up my back side. I thought pitbulls were banned in this country.
I don't think morally it's the same if your dog bites someone as you stabbing them with a knife, while the dog is owned by you it wasn't you that did the biting. It's like saying that if someone stole one of your knives and attacked someone then you should go to prison too, as the owner of the knife. I know where you're coming from though, if you're going to own something that can do serious harm to a human then there should be some regulations to it. So many dog owners have them for the wrong reasons or have no intention of treating them right. Problem is it'd be a logistical nightmare enforcing any laws, not that it wouldn't be worth it. If there could be a world where everyone looked after their dogs properly I don't believe these incidents of animal attacks would happen but how that could come about I have no idea.
I do - imprison the irresponsible owner. I do agree that taking responsibility for a dog is more difficult. But if you can't take the heat, get out of the skin-penetrating kitchen. I have to. Why shouldn't you?
Because owning a dog that attacks someone doesn't necessarily make you an irresponsible dog owner. If something snaps in a dogs brain and it injures someone then the dog will be put down but if the dog had a caring and responsible owner I don't see why them being banged up would do anyone any good. Imagine someone in the later years of life who owns a small dog who they cherish and spoil. Their grandson comes over to visit and the dog gets overexcited and nips their ankle. So the owner should be carted off to prison?
I do. When you're on the wrong end of it, there is no difference whatsoever between a dog bite and a knife attack. The perpetrator (or the person responsible for it) should rightfully be punished. I'm in my seventies, and I own a small knife - but by god it can hurt you. Why should "someone in the later years of life who owns a small dog" be treated any different if something he's responsible for occasions harm to someone? Do you think the afflicted person perceives any difference?
So you're saying that in the example I gave they should go to prison for their dog nipping an ankle of their grandchild and drawing a little blood? What kind of sentence?
Exactly the same as me for drawing a little blood. The person shedding the "little blood" won't perceive any difference, so I see no logical reason for the courts to perceive any either. Either you want the responsibility or you don't want a dog, end of. We've been soft on dog owners for far too long. P.S. Nacho : Whatever our difference of opinion might be, I do very much appreciate your civilised discussion. Thank you.
http://saigoneer.com/vietnam-news/6742-angry-mob-kills-dog-thief-in-northern-vietnam Well its about dogs.
I have a few times a few years ago. Never see or hear of it now. Lots of dogs go missing and are shipped to Vietman or China.
I wouldn't have minded giving it a kick as it'd hurt my dog but I'm not the type to do so. Besides it would have most likely dodged it and ripped my leg off at the knee.
And to think safc83 wants a savanna cat. The size of a mountain lion and can leap over very tall buildings and can eat giant haystacks for a light snack
Why put the dog down if it's the owners fault? I've got a staff and he wouldn't hurt anyone, but i still wouldn't let him loose in a park full of kids. The only time he gets let off the lead is if we're well away from joe public and i can see that there's no other dogs around. My dog is very social with people but hates other dogs, it's in the breed and most are like that. Hence he gets walked on the lead all the time. The owner of this dog should be watered for being so ****ing stupid and obviously doesn't give a toss about the welfare of the dog.
