Liverpool,Tottenham In Sao Paulo Contact For Lucas Rodrigues

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Luis Figo no7, Jul 30, 2011.

  1. Tottenham and Liverpool are in contact with Sao Paulo for midfield sensation Lucas.

Lucas is the subject of an offer from a "major European club", according to his agent, and local media sources say both Spurs and Liverpool are chasing the youngster.

Lucas insists he is in no rush to move to Europe and says he has not yet decided on his future. "I read that I have decided to go to Italy, but that isn't true," he told Folha de Sao Paulo. "At the moment my thinking is to continue and improve at Sao Paulo because I am young and need more experience before making the leap to Europe, but I haven't yet decided where I will go."

Doubt its true but I heard this player has got some potential. An attacking midfielder who could be a long-term target for Aquilani/Meireles. That sort of foreign flair in midfield that tends to be somewhat underrated at times.

He was linked to United aswell the other day, I think this is just his agent trying to stir up some attention for him.

Do Liverpool or Spurs need any more midfielders?

If Modric leaves, I think Spurs would have a spot for him... Is there any word on that?

Good point. I reckon Diego of Wolfsburg would be a good replacement for Modric but he has a few problems with his attitude and thats what Spurs might want to avoid with life after Luka.

Lucas would be a good long term replacement if he stayed committed to them.

  9. Liverpool certainly dont need anymore midfielders..but I do think if we signed him,he would go into the reserves for a year or to two, before(hopefully) making the step up to the first team..so sign him up I say!

    You've seen Lucas play then?

Diego plays more of an advanced role, like Van Der Vaart so I couldn't see him being the replacement for Luka. Levy has never said he's for sale and since he's goy 5 years left on his contract, the club are in the best position. If he were to leave, I can't see us getting too much of a like for like as there aren't many other players like Modric, I can't see us getting anyone other than Diarra and if Real Madrid lower their asking price we might end up getting him anyway.

The Diego comment fair enough but Lucas is a completely different type of player. He often plays wide as well as in the middle.

We were linked to Lucas a few weeks ago, some sources even claimed to have spotted him in a restaurant with Comolli (somewhat out of the blue so it was given some consideration).

He looks supremely talented, and i mean supremely talented. He's going to cost £20mil+ from what i've seen and read and there's no way Spurs will invest that much in Modric's replacement, especially a flair Brazilian. I don't often go nuts for young players like this, but have payed special attention to him and watched a decent number of matches, and i really do rate him. One indication, in a straight choice between him and Mata, i would go for him. Spurs' replacement for Modric he is not though.

We have enough midfielders for now we should be concentrating on other areas

According to Wiki(I know, I know) he's still at Wolfsburg. Sounds like a top blocke though:

"On 5 February 2011, Diego won a penalty for Wolfsburg. Diego took the ball from designated spot-kick taker Patrick Helmes and then hit the woodwork 10 minutes from time. Wolfsburg later lost the match by one goal and Wolfsburg's furious manager fined him €100,000 (£86,000) for failing to follow instructions. He was also informed that he will be removed from the first team for Wolfsburg’s upcoming game against Hamburg.[12] He once again got in trouble with the management of Wolfsburg, when he on 14 May before a crucial relegation game against Hoffenheim left the hotel in which the team was staying, when he was informed he would not be starting the game. This left Wolfsburg with only 6 players on the bench for the game that would determine whether they would play another season in the German Bundesliga. Wolfsburg went on to win the game 3–1 without Diego ensuring another top flight season for the club, though Diego was fined €510,000 for his actions."

Diego plays a lot higher up on the pitch, as I mentioned. I've never seen this Lucas play, where does he play?

If Modric were to leave Spurs, then why wouldn't the club spend less than they'll receive for his sale on buying his replacement?

If Spurs sell Modric, then presumably the fee will be more than the £20m+ that's been suggested for Lucas, Raul.
Why wouldn't Spurs use most of that money to bring in a replacement?

    Better?
