Yes, blacks eventually got equal rights in the South of the USA and South Africa. Segregating the sexes is archaic and dumb.
Why? If women choose to have a women's only WI, I really don't get my knickers in a twist. Similarly, I don't care if someone decides to have a male-only golf club. Or female-only. They aren't using public money; who cares? I know it's right on to see sexism everywhere but why not let people have the choice? And before someone jumps on with a good old straw man of "so you must approve of white-only clubs" there's a major difference. It's immoral to distinguish between white and black people but I do distinguish between men and women. There IS a difference and I have no problem with men wanting to stick with men or women, ditto. If just one woman golfer wanted to join Muirfield and is denied then I think it is wrong on principle but that is just my personal opinion.
The bigger issue with golf and sexism is surely why I can't play off the red tees and have a handicap of 36. I'm prepared to wear a skirt if needed.

I've run race for life when I was younger, for my mum who died of cancer. I was only 12 or something though, so that's probably why I got away with it. Doubt I'd get away with it now...I'm more obviously a bloke.
It'll all be academic in a few years anyway , as Fran says, the old dodereres will have popped their clogs and the vote will be different. I'm happy that they have lost the British open because of it.

Well .......... sort of. If you travel through the Deep South of the USA you'll see that there's a difference between the "law" and what actually happens. In South Africa, they looked like they'd got it sorted out, but Mandela's dream of reconciliation is dead and the current government are set on stripping the "arrogant whites" of as much as they can, whilst the ordinary citizen (of any colour) looks on in horror and the (mainly white) farmers continue to be butchered. Unless the more moderate party get in, the ANC will have that country sliding quickly down the Zimbabwe route ...............
