I have got this running on the Norwich board, as well as a few others and want to try it on here as well as there are plenty of fans here. For a bit of fun, over the course of the next season, I want to run a league along side the real football leagues but with a slight twist. How it works. 1. Each person chooses 1 team (any team) from any of the top 4 leagues in England. 2. Each team can only be nominated once on a first come, first served basis 3. You can not change your team until the end of the season, ready for the next season (if it proves sucessful and/or worthwhile) 4. There are no prizes - it's for fun. 5. Only open to Gillingham fans unless I need to get outsiders to make up the numbers Only league games scores are counted, not cup games. Points system. As with the current leagues in England it's 3 points for a win 0 points for a defeat 1 point for a draw As their are only 20 teams in the Premier League, for this to work the fun league needs to be restricted to 20 teams and team will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Based on the chosen teams, a fixture list will be created where each team will play each other twice Each time a team plays, their score will be allocated to the team in this fun league (League games only). For example Wigan Ath v Norwich on the first day of the season. Real scoreline on the day is 2-2. Wigan would be credited with 2 goals as would Norwich However, in the fun league Wigan might be playing Wycombe! (if anyone chooses them) And Wycombe (if anyone chooses them) score 3 goals in their first game. The fun league result would then be Wycombe 3-2 Wigan Ath and Wycombe would get the 3 points - Follow? It might get a bit messy around January when the FA Cup overlaps league games but it should not be too much of an issue. If a real game is postponed, those teams next league games will count in the fun league - still follow? I will post fixtures on each Friday on this forum. Updated results, and the league table will be posted the following Tuesday The website where you can view fixtures, results, table etc can be found here http://thaicanaryfootballleague.weebly.com/ Hope you will have a go and support this effort. If interested please enter your chosen team by posting on this thread brb, if the league takes off, could it be made a 'sticky' post? Any questions or suggestions to improve it are welcome Closing date for entries - 10th August I am also hoping some Gills fans would be willing to create match reviews and/or reports each week for the games in this league. To get a flavour of what I am looking for have a look at the match previews for Norwich, Swansea, Wycombe, Leeds Utd & Ipswich If interested in creating reports please PM me. Teams selected so far Gillingham - GeminiSwiftgfc Norwich City - brb Leicester City - Gills,oxon4everandaday Huddersfield - Kentish Man Rotherham Utd - Carras Prodigy Liverpool - Manchester Gill Blackpool - Jokeykid Tottenham H - Gillsmad Preston N E - BSG Crawley Town - The Shouting Man Leeds United - ThegillsFan West Ham Utd - Belfast Blue Southampton - Hoadie Boi Brighton & H A - Gills Prog Seller Stoke City - AshfordGill Charlton Ath - CAFCAlex Aldershot - Thai Canary (Will move aside if a Gills fan wants to take the place) Swindon Town - Slimboy Fat AFC Wimbledon - Cheshire Canary (Will move aside if a Gills fan wants to take the place) Man Utd - Billypockets 606 (Will move aside if a Gills fan wants to take the place) 0 places available
Question. If say, in the fun league Leicester are to play Scunthorpe and in real life Leicester beat Hull 1 0 and Scunthorpe lose to Leyton Orient 3 2 then the fun league score will be Leicester 1 Scunthorpe 2 giving Scunthorpe 3 points in the fun league, right? So when picking a team go for one who score loads. Or have I the wrong end of the stick?
You are 100% correct and just because Man Utd & Chelsea win the PL all the time and frequently score 2, 3 or more goals it still might not be enough for them to win this league
Thai - can I have Norwich City - purely because they have scored over 120+ goals per season for the last two seasons. Also I'm not contributing to any external websites. I will hasten to add, I looked on the Wall and the league stuff you did looked good.
they have scored over 120+ goals per season for the last two seasons. Is that on a computer game? Norwich City added brb and happy to see your optimism about the Canaries is far higher than mine! Also I'm not contributing to any external websites. - Entirely optional and I never take offence I will hasten to add, I looked on the Wall and the league stuff you did looked good Thank you, it has taken about a month to get it to where it is now
Thai - just looking at your closing date of the 10th Aug. I know your lot in the Premiership don't kick off until the 13th, are you aware the rest of us kick off on the 6th?
Well aware. The games played before 12th August will not count. Because PL teams only play 38 games a season I need to 'drop' 8 rounds of matches in the Championship, League 1 & 2. If you look at the fixtures for any team with a full league you will notice 'gaps' in the dates to remove the 8 rounds of games. Also - the PL finish 1 week later than everyone else! Which means there will be incomplete scores until the PL finishes. Statistical nightmare for me but I think I am sufficiently prepared.
hum now to take blackpool who regularly scored 2 or more goals last season but always managed to concede one more than they scored or to take someone else? i'll take blackpool please, come on you seasiders!!!
