I agreed with you -and got a bollocking for it. But it's just common sense, you can't put all your eggs into one fragile basket. One slip and you're out of a cup competition, throwing away so many points in the league in the hopes of not making that slip is just daft. Anyway, it's all done now. Let's hope we've learned that lesson and don't make the same mistake in future.
If you ask me the Sevilla manager knew exactly what he was doing and which of our buttons to press, and it worked. That's why he made the changes at half-time. We didn't have a clue what was happening before it was too late.
We will, though, because teams of today can't seem to multitask. Paisley managed it; we won those three cups under Houllier, but this lot... and what annoyed me was that fans justified it as being the right thing to do. I had a feeling we'd lose, but I didn't think we'd collapse like an England batting order FFS!
I didn't feel that, but I knew it was a very real possibility and we just can't pin all our hopes for the season on that one result - or even that one competition. When it comes down to it, the only real measure of a team's quality is their league position, anything else is a bonus. Anyway, I'm enough of an optimist to believe we can learn from our mistakes and not keep repeating them. It's early days for Klopp yet, so let's hope he can make something of however many of this lot he decides to keep, and a few judicious signings.
the decision not to give a pen for the foul on firmino (not for the handball) was a ****ing joke imo. left his leg in took him out as stonewall as you could ask for imo. feelings today : **** everyone.
Come on lads, this is just the beginning! Imagine what happens when Klopp actually builds his own squad. Incredible achievement to get this lot to 2 finals.
I agree Saint but we simply didn't have the squad to compete on all fronts - we had to prioritise the EL. Next season will be different ...
I agree Wishi, I think Emery got his tactics absolutely spot on 2nd half. He's a very talented manager. Winning that pot 3 times on the spin with a fairly average side is some achievement.
We;ve had too many games where we have only turned up for 45 minutes this season, or sometimes not at all. Hard to win stuff when you can't perform consistently. Obviously gutted about the result but I believe Klopp will have learnt a lot more about the players with that second half performance than he would've had we gone on to win.
Nah, it was neither. It was never a foul and to have given handball for that would have been extremely harsh given the distance the ball travelled and the position his arm was in.
It's one of those when its not given in your favour you feel it was a penalty but if it was given against us we'd say it wasn't a pen.
If the Sevilla player doesn't handle it, Firmino is through on goal. However, he's hacked down. Should have been one or the other (I say other, it wasn't handball). No excuse though, we weren't good enough. Simple as that.
