Don't agree with POTY award(or rather do we have to have just 1 POTY?)

Now before we start, don't get me wrong, VVD is a great player (obviously better than Lovren based on this evening!) and thoroughly deserves the award. but I'm not sure it was as clear cut as that. Shane has been excellent, as has Steven Davis, and Bertrand is clearly the best LB I'm the premiership, while fonte is captain fantastic and our form has recovered since Forster came back and Mane's goal scoring in recent weeks is impressive...

I guess my point is that in recent years we've had 1 stand out player.. Now we have a squad of top fellas and all of us with have our favourites for absolutely valid reasons (Davis just edges long personally, purely for the effect they have on the team and the ability to pull it out the bag when needed..). Can we just give every player this season POTY?

I was going along with the good natured post of the OP, but I have to admit, you have a point. :)

And that's the case this year in Van Dijk.

Yeah, I didn't actually think this year's POTY was too tough a choice.

People might think I'm just bagging on Long again, but no not really. I would vote for Long as second. And I could also easily accept the argument that Long COULD have won it, but through no fault of his own didn't get enough chances to play in the first half of the season.

But to me when you add it all up, I think VVD was just that good and it's rather clear-cut to me. As opposed to the year that Lallana won it where I felt it could have gone to Lambert or Rodriguez.

If Fraser Forster wasn't out with an injury for all those games, he'd be my player of the year. Hell, if he was fit all season, we probably would have won the league.

Yup. Long for me, the balance of sitting patiently and waiting for his chance, top scorer (joint), effort in every game and cheerful disposition. But it is very close, vvd, Bert, Davis, pelle, mane could all be pots. Fraser has been immense but can't be included as only played 1/2 season.

Edit- I don't agree, but don't disagree with poty either.

Pelle and Mane?? Really? Sorry, while they have had their moments, the others listed have at least been consistent. I get the feelings for Long, however VVD has been outstanding for most of the season. To find fault with his season, is looking for isolated missed passes, something everyone does but he has just been very close to impeccable all season.

VVD by a long distance, then Long who had a fantastic second half of the season. You can't give player of the season for being patient.

Look at that, I am almost in perfect agreement with you :1980_boogie_down:

Shall we tempt harmonies here and name our third choices as we agree on first and second? :)

Bertrand had a patch where he was a little shakey and not up to much going forward. Davis had some poor games. Yet people are putting them on the shortlist. Mane- surely a midfielder who scores as many goals as a striker deserves a look in?
Pelle and mane- their poor patch coincided with a general dip in form.

I'm not putting them in my short list. It has one, followed by a second list of one.

    You said any of those
