Its making a bit of a comeback. Anyone remember Blind Institute on Beverley Rd? http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/2011/jul/29/northern-soul-dance-clubs-photograph?intcmp=239
I used to go to the Blind Institute quite a lot, there used to be some good gigs on, I remember this mob particularly..... Thursday 09 October 1980(I didn't remember the date, I looked it up, honest)
Anyway, back on topic and rather a different genre to the above, R Dean Taylor..........
I saw Crass there around that time too, pretty sure it was at Blind, what were they doing there?? Remember seeing UK Subs at Welly, got my head kicked in outside, never knew why. Think it was Thursday night at Blind for the Soul night??
It was odd to see Crass at the Blind Institute, they were particularly cool at the time, Poison Girls in support if I remember rightly. The Subs used to play Welly regularly, I must have seen them there at least three times. I got banged up after one of them, after my mate decided to nick a fuzz pedal and then accidentally threw it through a shop window on Bev Road. I ended up getting a £5 fine for under age drinking.
Blind Institute soul night, wednesdays? 7-30pm - 10-30pm? Thursday punk/live bands thursdays regular at welly, Blind institute less often but also thursdays. Hull uni= same. Often a clash of bands. As usual I may be wrong. If in need of soul music today/tonight try Brantingham If in need of punk music try Blackpool next weekend. Keep the faith.
