Wtf are you on about?!? You seem to be ignoring that our sale value goes up relative to the guaranteed income increase.
Burnley's investment in the ground and the academy facilities will increase the value of Burnley. We haven't done that. The ground and the academy are rented so add nothing to the value of the football club in the short term. For a careful owner Burnley is the model to follow, same as WBA, Stoke City, Southampton. But that costs money and will be reflected in the selling price. If you buy a house with a tenant without a roof you don't expect to pay more for a similar one with a roof. Similarly if you bought a house with a short term tenant you'd pay less than one with a long term tenant even if they paid the same astronomical rent each month.
The £140m was clearly a figure off the top of my head!! Ok then, which is more attractive to a buyer - a championship club costing £40m or a premier league one costing £250m? Ruddy Nora...
Buying a club that's already in the Premier League is a safer option, but as Bummers says, if you're looking to make money, there's far more of an opportunity to do so if you buy a Championship club and get them promoted.
Exactly, it's possible; you have it right, Peter. There is far too much broad-brush nonsense about everyone being in the same boat; good stewardship and team management will move a club forward financially. Someone buying the club will be looking for a fair price and potential for improvement - you don't pay for potential, although it certainly helps a sale go through. I believe the HCC will be more than happy to talk to new owners about a whole range of possibilities, why the hell wouldn't they.
Don't forget everyone knows you now have more money to spend, so the player you could have bought as a championship club has now gone up in value. If you get drawn into the premier league hype like we did, sell or run down the contracts on all the players who got you promoted. Replace the 1, 2 and 3 million players with 5, 8 and 10 million ones that extra 60 million won't go far. Would we be better or worse if we had kept Boyd, Quinn, Rosinior, Mcshane and not bought Livermore, Huddlestone and Diame.
Its possible. If Burnley become an established Premier League team and the owners eventually sell they will make money. You just have to wait. Most of Burnley's recent investment came from the Premier League money they got last season. I doubt whether the owners had to put any more money in. Success, ie staying in the Premier League, increases the value of a football club.
The argument is shifting, Sydney said a promoted team is more attractive to buyers cos of increased revenue.
