He doesnt really have a claim to the throne so unless he can conquer it militarily, that aint gonna happen. I think he just wants as much power as he can get. He basically owns the Vale now. If he wins back Winterfell then he will have a huge ally in the Northern Lords aswell. And like Littlefinger told Roose, "Last time the North and the Vale united, they took down the biggest dynasty the world had ever known." Of course they had the Riverlands and the Stormlands with them aswell though. I always wonder about the Storm lands. With Robert, Renly AND Stannis all dead, who is ruling at Storms End? Tommen is at Kings Landing and is King so he cannot be lord of the Storm lands (and although we know 100% that he is a Baratheon in name only, the rest of the world only suspects), so who the hell is ruling that kingdom at the moment? Walder Frey has the Riverlands, since House Tully was smashed, and Edmure Tully (cat Starks brother) is a prisoner of the Freys. Havent heard anything about him in some time. If Edmure dies then Brynden Tully (Cats Uncle) would be the rightful Lord of the Riverlands, if he can pry it from the Freys, and he is on the loose too. House Martell looks like its going to war, but even with the Faith Militant distracting The Tyrell/Lannister duo and Cersei doing her best to sabotage that alliance, I cannot see how Dorne thinks it will be able to beat a full Lannister/Tyrell army. Their best hope is biding their time for Daenerys to come over and join up with her, since they were married in to House Targaryen through Elia Martell's marriage to Dany's brother Rhaegar, so I am sure that will be their play here. I expect Ellaria Sand to try to make contact with Daenerys either end of this season or beginning of next. The Westerlands, Uncle Kevan seems to be in charge at the moment, but if he cops it, with Lancel, Tyrion and Jaime ineligible as heirs, and Tommen being King, it will go to Cersei, and she will be the Lady of the Rock. So I fully expect to see Cersei make strides towards offing Uncle Kev this season. This is all very exciting!! Love this season compared to season 5, which I felt was the weakest season so far. Glad to see stuff actually moving along at a pace. Thought that Dany and the Dothraki, Jon's ressurection and Arya's training was going to drag out all season, but no, all of them have been resolved by episode 4! Good work show writers.
I see Roberts bastard ending up here. They haven't mentioned Gendry at all and I see him and Arya marrying in the future so that would put the North, Starks, Vale, Baratheons and Targareyns under one banner. Littlefinger will be killed by Sansa or Brienne imo.
Is nobody else getting a feeling.... Things are going too good.... like when Jamie and his inbred Daughter were all happy and then she chokesaid to death. One feels all this happy stark love in stuff is headed for an awful landing
The bad news would probably be something to do with Rickon. Ramsay has a few evil deeds left before he gets wiped out and I'm guessing Rickon will be involved there. He's just not an interesting enough character to keep alive.
Well he may be one stark too many all right. But you know.... Ramsey is best villian in tv history near enough Would they really chop him up? I mean I'd assume just watching it that he's our of control and going to **** it right up. Everything he's doing is escalating
isnt there suspicion of rickinbeing a waaarg too? in the crypt at winterfell he tells bran and nordor that he keeps seing ned down there (after neds beheading) not been much since but its a possibilty as i agree rickon hasnt much to offer as it stands.
Its a possibility, there's been hints to it before. But nothing on the level of Bran. Its alittle unfair to have a go at Rickon, he's barely been in it and when he was he was very young. Although I'd agree he's in for a very rough time and if Ramsey is to be booted out of Winterfell I get the feeling Rickon will probably cop it in a last act of defiance.
Anyone else get the impression that the reason stuff is moving at a pace now is because the shackles of Martin's books have been cast off? I have read the books.....the show is better. Its one of those rare occurrences where the show is better. The books are better at backstory, lore, and the military stuff (the strategic side is far more complex and intriguing). But the show does such a good job of trimming the fat from the books, and by god does it have plenty of fat. Also because you cannot get in to the characters head like in the books, the actors have to convey so much using pure talent, and it makes the characterisation better. The books meander too much, especially after the third book. The last two books were seriously drawn out and arduous. Still good reads, but the show is better for me, and I am a HUGE fan of reading.
The show seems to take ages over every scene shooting every little detail and every scene on screen either shows something or has some dialogue that is a fortelling of some future. the ramsey dad scene... act like a man dog you'll be slaughtered like one.. we know its inevitable.. its just how... his actions with the wife and baby show it. Then you see him get up when dad gets news the camera pans round his back and you see the dagger, think nothing of it til he stabs the guy. It really is tiny details and you can see why they do 10 shows not 20 and get value for it.
the pity is a kid like rickon and old castles.. he should know any secret escape routes built into the dungeons. Bod... is there not an entire missing part of the rickon story baout some stark loyal banner man going to find him for stannis? as stannis is dead thats never happening so they just turned him up at umbers...
Yes I agree...I'm normally a book is better person (see my Shannara rants as evidence lol) but some writers are a little too self indulgent and George is definitely one of those. As I read the books I started feeling Martins hadn't really decided where it was all going in great detail and was changing his mind as he went...something I think which has lead to the delay in publications. The series has through necessity dumped a lot if the side wanderings and tightened up some of the main character arcs. On that I see some book fans are outraged that the latest episode proves that Daenerys is fireproof whereas in the books she is not...it was a one time special occurrence ...what part of "will now deviate from the books" do they not get lol. Stephen King is another one where I find a lot of the films or series are tighter than his books because they cut out his 3 chapter diversions that add little to the main story....
Talking of..Has anyone been watching 11.22.63? I'm a third of the way through the book which has been ok.
Caught up with GOT now, very good so far there is now a direction to the story, I can see all the Starks joining forces with Blondie and ripping up the white walkers at the end of this. Plenty to go before that though.
Didn't like the look of it, will wait for some solid reviews before diving into that one. I want to watch The Americans before anything else. @DirtyFrank
Anyone else think the Greyjoys have a part to play too? Whilst whats happening at Pyke isn't super exciting, I doubt we are going through this whole Kings Moot **** just so we can see how the Greyjoys solve their internal conflict, they must have a bigger, more relevant part to play, plus if Yara wins, she and Theon have a bone to pick with Ramsey, especially Theon. The Greyjoys may align with Jon and his Wildlings and the Knights of the Vale and maybe house Mormont, to attack Winterfell. Once Winterfell is liberated we will have Jon, Sansa and Rickon together. Bran is just North of them beyond the wall, and Arya is over in the North East in Braavos, so her coming back to the North may not be a stretch. Could we have a full Stark reunion, come seasons end? The unknown element in all of this is still Littlefinger. Yeah he is getting the Vale together to go "Help Sansa" but I trust that guy about as far as Tyrion could throw him. Once Winterfell is Re-Starked, whats his endgame? Marry Sansa to Robyn as originally planned and rule the Vale through them?
