Well, he's seen Liverpool play more often than I've seen Southampton :emoticon-0102-bigsm He goes to three or four games a season, watches every match live on TV then re-watches a few times after that. He is a bit of an opinionated prat, mind...

The first girl I shagged was in August 1947 and I thought I was the world's greatest lover, particularly as she was two years older than me, until my mates told me that I was the trophy and she was bragging to her friends about getting me to shag her. I felt used and abused. I have never forgiven or forgotten her. She just left me feeling cheap and used. I could tell you more but I don't want bore you all.

[QUOTalmost a case nnonfodder, post: 9255023, member: 1005335"]If I might disagree with Beefy, but not for the reason you think. I think that most (not Lovren perhaps) of the players who left do have fond memories of Saints and do care about the club. Whatever you do for a living now, chances are that many of you started doing that working for somebody else. You get a better offer, you leave. It's life.
I don't think Adam was being disingenuous with his rather crass Echo advert. He had to make a decision at a point where the opportunity might not come again. How many of us would turn down a doubling of our salary to join a competitor?
Of course, I might care about the old firm, genuinely. And I shouldn't be surprised if they were pretty upset that I had left them. But it's not like a fan changing allegiance. These guys are professional athletes.

So I have moved on. But I still feel entitled to laugh when any of them falls flat on their faces.[/QUOTE]
There is a little of the schadenfreude about it, someone you know and used to love suffering misfortune!

I think most people apply a level of tongue and cheek about the whole pantomime aspect, just a bit of fun really.

As I said. A "Liverpool Fan" aka twat. Judging a player based on TV highlights and a few games a year.

I am amazed that a bunch of Saints fans on a Saints forum would leave Saints for a bigger club if the money was right. I wouldn't. The money even the kids who don't make it dwarfs my teacher's salary - and I have never been bothered about spending that. Never gone for a promotion, either.

It amazes me how obsessed we are as a society with money and, worse, the easy win. I also played Sunday league for the same team for 15 years - despite a few better offers. Love of what you do is not diminished by not winning trophies. I think a win earned with a team you have helped build is far more impressive than one purchased.

Anyway, the way Lallana left proved the man is a nob. To have so little self-awareness and to think that Echo ad was a good idea... Fool.

Lallana's Echo ad shows for me how he acted towards the club when he wanted to leave. I have heard that he genuinely has fond feelings for the club and is not happy with how things went when he left, but i don't want him doing well. For what it's worth if I had been good enough to play for Saints I would not leave as it would be a dream achieved, much like it must have been for Lambert when he left for Liverpool. (Is it possible for a saints fan to dislike Rickie?).

I think probably Lallana probably does look back fondly at the club. He enjoyed his time here, he learned a lot. He felt it was time for him to move on. The club felt somewhat differently.

The way he forced his exit wasn't the best, and he should (with age?) maybe understand how to handle it better. But even then, Schneiderlin did the same thing-- he was simply unsuccessful. And Schneiderlin seems to have been forgiven. Also Walcott and Chamberlain kind of forced their exits as well and after only a year or less with the senior team.

Don't get me wrong, for some reason the Lallana exit sticks in my craw as well. But I'm not sure I have a good reason why. He did stay here plenty of years. I'm kind of over it and I actually found myself cheering for him a little bit towards the end of the season (not against us, obviously).

Also, at that time we had sacked Adkins, then Cortese was somewhat forced out. He probably knew Pochettino was leaving. We had apparently tried to sell Lambert in the winter. So it's not like it was all one way. There was a lot of turmoil at the top, and I can easily believe that players were kept out of the loop for the simple reason that no one could really give them believable answers. It was a huge risk they took. In the end it proved to be the right move, but I bet there was a ton of sweating and arguing and everyone having different ideas that summer. So Lallana couldn't be sure where the club was heading or whether any loyalty he showed us would be repaid.

Clyne apparently was willing to finish out his contract, but we didn't want to lose him for nothing. Chambers didn't really push for an exit, we just got a good price. So I have nothing against either of those two.

The only one I still bear a grudge against is Lovren, considering he was only here a year and we kind of rescued his career a bit. And his whole "As soon as I saw Anfield I knew I wanted to leave" attitude. I mean, Lallana made it clear he wanted out but he somewhat refrained from totally trashing the club.

I think the thing that stung the most with Lallana is I always felt he would be a constant and not leave. I have mellowed on what I used to feel I would take him back if he could fit into how we play. Lovren I could never welcome back though and I think the way he saw us is shown in that article about his national team. Seems he saw us as below him as soon as he could get away.

I'm sure Lallana still has fond memories....he was here a long time. He was apparently shocked by the fans' response....which is more muted now. At the last match, it was really Lovren who got the stick. Lallana is more like the son who has let you down, but he is still your son and eventually he is forgiven (especially if he is seen to suffer just a little bit). I'm sure he wants us to do well (though, of course, not as well as Liverpool).

I agree with the assessments on all these players, however Lallana sticks in my throat because in December he wanted to stay for life; by end of January he wanted out. Your "love" for a club doesn't change that quickly despite any turmoil at the top. He saw the money and decided that all he said meant nothing.

No, he always SAID he would be a constant and not leave, until a couple of quid, a red shirt and the waft of Roy Hodgson's cologne drifted under his nose.
